Had my 2022 Ram 3500 transmission fail on 1.11.24 with only 6200 miles on it. I was pulling a vehicle to Seattle, Washington from Wyoming and planning on returning home with a different vehicle on the trailer. It happened going over Snoqualmie Pass in a blizzard and was somewhat of a nightmare. Thank God I was on the descent when it happened and I was able to get pulled over to the side of the highway. Heard a large bang in the transmission, RPM's shot up, CEL came on and I could tell the transmission was no longer fully engaged. Got pulled over at an exit to try and figure out what was going on, I figured there was maybe ice built up on something or something along those lines but didnt see anything underneath that would be affecting anything. I could get it in reverse and after several attempts of putting it into drive it finally engaged, so we unloaded the vehicle I was towing, drove it separately and limped into Seattle only having 5th gear apparently from what I've read on the subject. Only a mile from the hotel I missed the turn I was supposed to take and I swear my navigation rerouted me up the steepest street in Seattle... transmission started to overheat so I pulled over in an apartment complex and shut the truck off, waited a bit, fired it back up and made it to the hotel. Got it into gear the next morning and drove it to the dealership another mile or so away and they called me later the next day and told me that the snap ring had failed in the transmission. The service manager told me it could take months to get the part and repair it, which to me is unacceptable. Made it back home to Wyoming by driving the vehicle I was supposed to trailer back.
I've been a Dodge guy my whole life, same with my dad and grandpa. I wont bad mouth them because all vehicles of all brands have their issues, this one is just more worrisome. Living in Wyoming I go back into some rugged country to hunt and fish, if this were happen out there I could be screwed. A normal tow truck could never make it back in to where I was at to tow me out and sometimes I'm miles from any cell phone service. I plan ahead for contingencies, but having your transmission fail on a brand new vehicle isnt one of them. I'm tempted to push the issue of them buying the truck back from me for what I paid and I'll go buy a 2024, which hopefully doesnt have this issue. Now I'm making payments on an expensive truck, that I may not be able to drive for who knows how long. I did call Ram customer care and they put a specialist on my case, whatever good that will do, I guess we'll see.
