RECALL: Ram Recalls Almost 340,700 Cummins-Powered Heavy Dutys

Heater-Grid Relays May Catch Fire...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling an estimated 306,165 of its 2021 to 2023 Ram 2500/3500 pickup trucks and Ram 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbodiesel engine

An internal investigation discovered that the intake heater-grid relays on certain Heavy Duty trucks may exhibit overheating. In rare instances, this condition may pose a fire risk. FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents related to the issue. However, there are reports of 6 potentially related fires (5 of which occurred while the vehicles’ engines were still on). The remaining incident was reported after the ignition was turned off.

The recall population is limited to vehicles equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engines and prior-generation heater-grid relays, which were the focus of two previous but smaller campaigns.

Despite the minimal risk, FCA US is advising owners of these vehicles, not to park their vehicles inside.

FCA US expects to begin notifying affected customers next month. But as of February 16th, customers may determine if their vehicle is included in the campaign by inputting their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) on search engines such as mopar.com/recalls, checktoprotect.org, or nhtsa.gov.
