Adding adaptive cruise

Posts 22 & 23 updated with some ACC install instructions.

Extra info for those that want to add lane assist along with ACC:
If you ALREADY HAVE adaptive steering, you just need to swap in the correct 12” screen that has the lane assist button (and no, you can’t get away with adding lane assist without having the physical button).
12” screens with lane assist button:
2019-2021 Cummins (Uconnect 4 only)- 68370849AC
2019-2021 Hemi (Uconnect 4 only)- 68423810AC
2022+ Cummins (Uconnect 5 only)- 68526611AB
2022+ Hemi (Uconnect 5 only)- 68526610AB

If you DO NOT have adaptive steering, in addition to the screen you need to swap out the steering gear box for the one with torque overlay- 68507900AB
Jumper wiring to connect steering module- 68485757AA (for 2019, you’ll need an additional custom harness)
The intermediate steering shaft (the one that connects to the gear box) is swapped out for a shorter one- (looking for part number)

These are all the settings for lane assist:
VehConfig 7: Lane Departure Warning Present- YES

CustSetMenu 1: Lane Departure Torque CSM Present- YES

CustSetMenu 1: Lane Departure Warning CSM Present- YES

P/T Chassis Net: EPS Electric Power Steering- ENABLED (already set on adaptive steering equipped)

I’m getting everything together for the ACC and will be doing it in the next month or so.

This topic is awesome and has me super excited, but regarding Lane Assist I am a little confused.

It seems that it’s possible to have the adaptive steering torque overlay, but not the other hardware for Lane Assist.

How would one know if they have adaptive steering?

Also, we’re you able to find the correct intermediate steering shaft pn?

Lastly, in another thread you mentioned Lane Assist was possible with an 8.4” screen bezel that includes the correct button, is that still possible?

If I have the correct torque overlay it’s a no brainer to do it right now, if not, then Lane Assist waits a year or so.

Thank you!

You can tell if you have adaptive steering by looking at the steering gear. If it has this circled torque overlay box attached to the gear, it has adaptive steering:

Parts post has been updated with the adaptive steering intermediate shaft- 68427394AA

I do know there’s such thing as Rams equipped with 8.4 radio and lane assist. I’ll have to search for one so I can get the VIN and part number.

Wonderful, I appreciate it. I wasn’t able to find a vin with the 8.4, but you had mentioned it in an old post and I was just curious.

Post a pic of your current 8.4 bezel, and I’ll see if I can find the one that matches yours with lane assist.

DASM/mirror harness (without cab lights)- 68517603AA

This part says it doesn’t work with my 2022. Any updated part number for a 22? Everything else looks ok.

I’d be looking to add this to a base model tradesman 2500 fyi with no bells or whistles.

This question comes up all the the time. The harness part numbers that I listed in the parts list will absolutely, without a doubt, work on all 2019-2023 HD Rams. Ignore what part sites say about compatibility.
I put a lot of research into doing this writeup, and trust me, I wouldn’t steer you guys wrong.

Thanks Jimmy. I only found this asked once in this thread and no clear answer so thanks for clarifying. I’d suggest adding a note to your parts post as I just went down your list and added them to cart.

Also, I have verified that a used DASM can be used, and it doesn’t have to be model year specific (although I would avoid using a 2019 DASM since it may or may not have the newest software to address surging).
I’ll update the parts post with that info, and with that being said, I just happen to have a used DASM available.

So I'm ordering parts to do this for my 2021. Have a couple of questions though that are a little different I think.

@Jimmy07
1. Does it matter which year DASM is used if you get it new? Reason I ask is the 2022 is much cheaper than a 2021 currently. I was assuming if the used one doesn't matter then maybe a new one doesn't either?
2021- 68484693AD - $1,166.30
2022- 04672894AB - $592.96

2. I was also contemplating the digital rear view mirror as well. Assuming this would be the time as I currently have the auto sensing and I'll have to replace it anyways. What part digital mirror would I want? (wanting to combine this with the new CHMSL with the camera and the cable. (actually want to modify it for a trailer camera but that's outside the scope of this thread).

However if I want to just replace what I have now and skip the digital mirror then I will also need:
68325128AA which is the correct mirror? In addition to the mentioned mirror adapter.

Thanks

I'm in the process right now on my 2020 2500. Installed the wire harness the other day, nice thing is it supports the existing mirror and rain sensor, just tucked away the other connectors away for now. Made an offer of $400 for a used DASM on ebay and they accepted. Installed the steering wheel switch already, so now just need the windshield!

Done of a lot of other work in the past...for some reason I'm nervous about the headliner and this harness. Any tips for the harness install?
Be sure to remove the hand grab piller trim on both sides as well as the upper center console, this allows you just enough room to work on removing all the clips holding the existing harness. A little tip, I should have taken a picture showing where all the clips were located before removing the old harness, or made a mark with feltpin to make it easier to match up the new harness clips, there's alot of mounting holes to pick from. I also pulled the door opening down off both sides. The main harness connector is very easy to access by removing the plastic side panel on the passenger side of the dash. One more tip be careful not to pull down to hard on the headliner as it might leave a crease just above the seat belt bracket on the door piller. I have a very small crease that probably ony I notice. Use a tool like this to remove the clips.

I meant to say "pull the door opening weather stripping down on both sides".

When removing the steering wheel air bag you need to push in the spring clip in quite aways, it locks in if you do, which is the position the spring clip needs to be when re-installed

Parts ordered EXCEPT the camera. Will wait for Jimmy to chime in about the DASM version. What you said is EXACTLY why I asked. Those headliners can be easy to crease/damage. Didn't see anyone mention it here. Assuming the console/visors/etc all need to come down first and then hoping I can pull it down without damage. I have the lights so thinking this will be a little worse than if I didn't. I think I'm going to do what you did and install the harness and buttons...then schedule the windshield. Thanks!

Forgot to include the visors, yes they also need to be removed.
