2021 Ram 3500 Returns Gets More Torque & Best-In-Class Towing Numbers:

Cummins High-Out I-6 Has Even More Torque...

The one-ton Ram 3500 returns to the lineup for 2021, as the segment’s most powerful and most capable pickup thanks to an increase of power and towing capacity. Now boasting a towing capacity of 37,100 lbs. with a gooseneck hitch and a conventional hitch maximum trailer weight rating of 23,000 lbs., Ram Trucks takes back the title of “towing king” for the Heavy Duty segment against the offerings from Chevrolet, GMC, and Ford.

The 2021 version of the legendary 6.7-liter CUMMINS inline-six-cylinder turbodiesel adds an additional 75 lb.-ft. of torque, to deliver a total of 1,075 lb.-ft. of torque. Working with Cummins, Ram engineers gave the 6.7-liter additional boost limits to the variable-geometry turbocharger to increase the boost pressure. They also went to work on the fuel delivery system and increased the fuel flow rate.

Still utilizing the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty frame that was mildly revised back in 2019, Ram engineers went back to work to revamp the Ram 3500’s fully-boxed rails and the rear-axle structural cross-member, for the fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch to accommodate the additional towing capacity. Using the optional fifth-wheel and gooseneck hardware, Ram integrates the system into the pickup box floor and includes fifth-wheel pucks, gooseneck bolt plates, and gooseneck center castings. This makes hooking up to a fifth-wheel or gooseneck even easier. The 37,100 lb. tow uprating is made possible by an in-house hitch design from Ram engineers.

With the “Fifth-Wheel / Gooseneck Towing Prep Group” the standard 4/7-pin trailer connector and 7-pin connector are integrated into the rear of the truck’s bed to easily wire a trailer.

For 2021, there is also an optional digital rearview mirror that displays video in real-time from the rear-facing camera located in the third brake light housing behind the cab. It can be turned off and reverted back to a traditional reflective mirror, with a simple flick of the adjustment located at the bottom of the mirror housing. The new digital rearview mirror is available on the “Safety Group” package across the entire Heavy Duty lineup.

The 2021 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty should be arriving in dealer showrooms at the end of the month.
