Digital Rear View Mirror

Hi Folks,

All the great postings here have helped me troubleshoot so much. Thanks.

I have a 2022 2500 Limited Longhorn Crew Cab. It came with digital review mirror (part of safety package option), bumper connection to the mirror and also the trailer surround-view camera option.

I go to order the rear trailer camera kit 68527599AA, and dealer says my vin can't use it (there are notes in the order sheets about having both camera options and they are not compatible - BUNK). . I order it anyway.
Kit arrives and I plug it into the rear left camera. NO VIEW on the mirror.

So I start checking all the cabling. Camera works plugged into mirror. I trace back wiring, checking along the way - a ton of work.
Can't find anything!

Finally, I find the culprit. The back received plug on the bumper and the cable plug which plug into it are just slightly mismatched in size, so no connection was being made. I am sure others have gone crazy over the same issue (including Detroit).

So, the fix was SIMPLE. I put a bit of aluminum foil in the hole side, and expanded the male part by opening the slot a bit.
Bingo, everything worked.

This is likely the cause of many intermittent connections as well.
Image 4763 is the end of the plug which goes into the bumper plug.
Image 4765 is the receiver plug on the bumper.

Side notes:
1. If you need to troubleshoot the rest of the cable, you will need BOTH the female-female and male-female Fakra cords. Just order the blue color plug ones - they are universal to all Fakra types. The low cost antenna connection grade is fine for testing things.
2. You can use a VOM to test connections from point to point.

Is there a definitive list of parts needed, dependant on spec to complete this on a 2022 2500 with surround view cameras. I got the part number for the CHMSL in a post, but not for the mirror.
I did see a list on the 5th Gen forum, but it looks like that is for the 1500’s.
I’m assuming it’s just mirror, cable and CHMSL?

Great question I came across that thread with the 1500 too, would definitely be awsome to install a working setup in my 2020 3500 4x4.

This is what I am using on a 2022 2500 4X4:

Mirror: 2 input - 68519111AA
CHMSL: 68465998AA
Cable from Amazon

CHMSL and cable are already ordered.

Trying to put together a parts list. For a 2023 Laramie with auto high beams but no forward collision or adaptive cruise do I want

68519222AA
Or
68519111AA

I don’t care if I lose auto high beams, but I don’t want any error messages popping up. I don’t have alphaodb.

Whichever one is cheaper assuming you don't plan on selling your old mirror. The mount can be swapped over without too many issues.

I can tell you that the 68519222AA has the mount for trucks with the DASM. You will need to turn off the auto high beams in the BCM with AlfaOBD/JScan.

Looks tricky?

Also, it looks like the 2nd camera input is analog (NTSC) as referenced in the install doc I found..

Has anyone tried this yet? Very tempted to try this but it will be a bit of an investment. Don't want this to be an expensive wasted effort. Would be trying this on a 2020 Ram 3500 Limited with all options including DASM.

Would be using the OE 21+ dual camera CHMSL with the Gentex mirror

The OEM cameras will not work with the Gentex mirror. Those cameras are digital, the Gentex mirror is analog.

Only when optioned, the standard DRVM is also available….at least that’s what I understand from @Jimmy07
He means the mirror and mirror processor. All 2023-2025 use the same digital mirror and processor, whether it’s optioned with the side mirror cameras or not. So we just discern the 2021-2022 and 2023-2025 digital mirrors by saying the 23+ are digital 3.0

So is there a parts list available to add to my 23 3500?

interested in the custom harness for the mirror processor? also does the blue wire from the mirror have to communicate with the mirror processor? also for just the rear camera option do you think the repeater 68509331ab would work instead of the mirror processor? was looking at other threads on this forum which was very helpful of figuring out the differences and components for these cool options.

Reviving an old thread... Again...

I'm looking to add the digital rear view mirror to my 2025 Ram 2500. Is this possible? I would also like to have the cargo camera capability. Currently have an auto dimming rear view mirror and surround view.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I think you would need the third brake light camera. Hopefully there would be a plug that is with-in the cavity of the brake light itself.
