Automatic Regen too often

Their stuff has been proven to be subpar and problematic over the past few years. If you take the time to compare their products with those from the OEM filter manufacturers (Fleetguard and Parker-Hannifin / Baldwin) it’s not very difficult to see the difference in quality of construction. If you take the time to cut their filters open and compare to the OEM there’s no comparison between the two. I’ve also replaced several of their primary fuel filters on 2018 and older trucks, which caused no-start conditions or at the very least low fuel pressure codes due to poor construction. I’ve also seen several of their engine oil filters where the media separated from the canister internally. The quality difference between Docs and OEM is sufficient enough that I avoid them. In truth, if you take the time to source the OEM filters directly from their manufacturers distributors (not Ram Dealers), the price difference isn’t worth going outside of OEM. I can buy both OEM fuel filters, a better oil filter than OEM, and the same engine air filter for $180 at my local International trucks dealership which is one mile from my house. Compared to the $120 docs charges for subpar products and cheaper quality. That $60 savings isn’t worth it when it comes to maintenance on a $100k vehicle. Geno’s garage also offers a very reasonably priced OEM filter kit ($175 for the four filters I mentioned) I also find it very interesting that Doc’s does everything in their power to systematically eradicate any negative reviews or comments attached to their products. I wonder why that is? View attachment 73517
What are your thoughts on Genos? Appears their stuff is all OEM

Geno’s garage carries the OEM filters at great prices. You can also get better engine oil filters over the OEM for just slightly more money.

From Genos? Or can you point me in the right direction? I appreciate all the help.

The only upgraded oil filter Geno’s offers is the Fleetguard LF16035. That’s a better filter than the stock Mopar (which is actually a Fleetguard LF3972). The best three spin-on oil filter you can buy for these trucks are (in order of performance)

1. Donaldson DBL7349 Here
2. Amsoil EAO80 Here
3. Fleetguard LF16035 Here

As for the fuel filters, either the Mopar ones or their OEM equivalent manufacturers numbers. Genos only sells the frame mounted fuel filter in the Mopar branded version, but you can get that exact same filter from any Baldwin distributor via part number PF46152. The engine mounted fuel filter can be had via Geno’s as either the Mopar branded one or it’s OE manufacturing number Fleetguard FS53000.

For engine air filter Genos offers both the Mopar 53034051AB or the Fleetguard AF27684. Both are absolutely identical.

Just ordered the Donaldson oil filter, and Mopar fuel filters. I know I'll be changing the oil whenever I get the truck back from the dealer given how over full it is (and wreaks of diesel fuel), and knowing they won't change the oil under warranty even though the failed parts are covered.

Must be taking pointers from Andersen Hitches.

Bring this up on the FB groups and you get flamed or banned.

Easier to have a sterling reputation when you eradicate any naysayers. I find it amusing. You’ll see their ads pop up repeatedly with 200+ comments, but when you actually click “all comments” there’s less than 20 visible….

I buy my Donaldson DBL7349 from Cross Filters and my FS53000, note price listed includes shipping or it did when I last purchased my 3 oil filters from them for $52.00: https://crossfilters.com/products/d...ll-flow-donaldson-blue?variant=42426482721021
FYI it pays to take the time to price check several different web sites, at one time Rock Auto had Mopar rear fuel filter cheaper than Genos an it was in stock when they were out..

Interesting. I have conflicting info from them.
BTW the info I read at that time came from there own web site, it was after reading that BS was why I refused to buy there filters or trust them in any way being I was sure that Fleetguard filers were indeed made with 3 micron nano net filtering media being they as I have been told invented it...

This.

I can’t sell this truck in good conscience to someone unless I know it’s running correctly. I would never want to be on the receiving end of such a transaction. Ram created this mess. I bought the truck in good faith, and have been operating it and maintaining it to the highest degree of correctness. It’s time they stand up, admit to the issue, and create an effective solution.
Funny enough, I spoke with them today.

I got the standard round about but I was told to keep track of all my maintenance, mileage and reciepts (which I do), as Stellantis is pushing back on customers who aren't doing all maintenance (oil and filter changes) at the dealerships.

The question is, will they end up fixing things as they should or will this end up eventually turning into a class action when enough info is gathered, where no one wins.

They did state there is something severely wrong with my vehicle.

Just curious what your issue is? If you read above you'll get a general picture of my issue (regen every 20 miles, and diesel in my oil. No CELs though). They've had my truck a month and are now just finally about to try to replace parts - starting with the MAF

Same.

Essentially everything minus the block and turbo have been replaced. This is the third set of injectors.

Trucks has been "making" oil. Smells strongly of diesel.

Side note, I throws the regeneration frequency code so often, I can actually tell by the way the truck is acting that the code is going to be thrown before it does.

My mileage has tanked and it begins to run rough, especially on startup and shutdown.

so much for being "ram tough".

At this point the truck is 170+ days in the shop for the same code. They just throw parts at it and hand it back.

Holy smokes brother. I know the dealer my truck is at said it took them 5 months to resolve on another truck with similar problems to mine but were unwilling to share what it ultimately took to resolve the problem. I'm pretty sure at a minimum I need new injectors and possibly injector pump (I was told due to it's position that it can also leak into the crank case). However, that's speculation on my part, and given your experience plus many others I'm wondering if even that would solve my issue.

so, something to add that ive seen. My truck like clockwork would regen every 24 hours of operation. or about 1100/1200 miles in at 24 hours. Ever since it got warm and i suspect they went from winter diesel to summer diesel im now regenning at 10ish hours, 550-650 miles. In the winter it would run regen for 15-22 miles to complete. Now it's taking 35-45 miles to complete. Just one of my observations.

I drive 120 miles a day, 20 miles of back roads, each way, rest highway at 75-80mph

I don't see why they would be unwilling to share. It seems like everyone at these dealerships is working in silos, rather than keeping an open dialogue. Even the case managers at stellantis seem more inclined to push parts to close "cases", rather than follow a trucks history and solve the actual problem.

I would be curious as to what the fix eventually was, what it took for them to get there and most importantly if it actually lasted. Stellantis as a whole seems to treat symptoms rather than source out root causes, so from my experience and others in the area, the "fixes" are generally short term.

In the end, whatever is going on with these trucks couldn't be good for their ultimate longevity, which for ram will just hurt confidence in their brand even further. People who know of my trucks issues have ultimately decided to buy other brands. That's not to say they don't all have their own issues, but at least they don't sit in the shop for several months a year.

I know this has been beat to death but I can’t find a good answer to this other than “drive it harder”. I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with a Cummins (not high output) at roughly 8500 miles I got the regen too often code and my mileage dropped from roughly 17 average to 14, took it to the dealer and they said I need to drive it harder. At this point my towing miles were at 2,000 miles so I’m towing 9k lbs 25% of the time. I know that’s not a lot.

At 9,00 miles (500 miles later) my mpg is down to 12.6 and I get another regents too often code. Back to the dealer and they tell me ”you need to drive it harder” they do the manual regen and send me on my way.

Now I start tracking my auto regen from the dpf screen, I leave the dealer still in auto regen, put 363 miles on the truck at highway speeds up and down canyons, auto regen finally shuts off…. For 22 miles, truck goes back into auto regen, I have 263 miles since then and the truck is still in auto regen. That 263 miles is me flooring it from every stop light and averaging roughly 90mph on the Highway, hitting 102 at times which apparently is the top speed for the truck. Around 150 miles into this regen I hooked a 4k lbs trailer to the truck and started just driving around with that trailer connected to try and get it out of regen. Mileage is still at 12.8ish.

Called the dealer last night and they said all they can do is put it in manual regen in the parking lot. They tell me they have one other person with this problem and that it’s my driving habits. At this point I’m calling BS, I have about 20 diesel trucks in my parking lot at work, most these guys live within 20 miles of this place and pretty much all of them still have brand new hitches on their trucks, all of them that I talk to either tow smaller trailers than I do, or less often or not at all. I’m having a hard time believing it’s my driving habits when 25% of my miles are towing and only one other customer has this problem. Has anyone else found a fix for this? Thanks!

I just joined this group. I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with just about 10K miles on it. It has been to two different dealers now 6 times. All for regening every 50-100 miles. One dealership put a whole new exhast system in it from the engine to the tail pipe. Did not change a thing. I have been dealing with Ram Cares as well. They told me to take it to the dealer once again, which I did to prove a point and it still was not fixed. Ram Cares is saying that the tech at the dealership says my truck is OK. There is no problem with it going into Regen every 50 to 100 miles. We all know this is not OK. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau hoping they could shed some light on this problem. I want Dodge to either fix my truck or replace it. That does not seem to be on the table though. Anyone have any luck with Lemon Laws on issue such as this one?
Thanks

The buyback seems unlikely based on this thread. Be warned this thread is quite mind blowing and anxiety inducing:

I'm going on 5 weeks without my truck, but the regens are more extreme (every 20-25 miles). They're replacing the MAF today. You might check and see if your truck has a MAF made in Germany or China. The problem one seems to be German made. With that said, I'm not convinced it'll solve my issue. Also, have you had an oil analysis done? If not, you can get a siphon that runs down your oil check tube, and pump enough. Then send it to Blackstone for analysis. Anything above 5% fuel dilution is an issue, and is at least another arrow in your quiver.

I haven't got my truck back yet to do my most recent oil analysis, but based on the level when I dropped it off there's likely close to a gallon of diesel in my crank case. It wreaks of diesel also. Crazy thing is that I have no CELs

I have to disagree with using Blackstone being you can get better UOA testing an cheaper by using either Fleetguard or even the one from Amsoil
