Heading out on the first camper trip with the new truck.
PW-75 Inaugural Trip with our new Coleman 2715RL Travel Trailer…..RAM taking Flight…..
I came from a Nissan Titan as well. This truck definitely pulls much better all around.7x14 enclosed carries my SxS and a couple of quads. We'll be doing my first big road trip in December. Going out west to ride some dunes. I'm excited to see how it does compared to my old Titan that it replaced. The trailer will weigh somewhere around 6000# loaded and the truck will have four passengers in the cab and three pups in the bed. Should be easy work.

Yeah in the smalls trip that I have taken I can feel that it's more stable with the load and it doesn't feel like it gets pushed around at all. The 8spd makes a world of difference towing it around as well. My Titan had many upgrades and made easy work of it but it's a different ball game with the 2500. Very pleased.I came from a Nissan Titan as well. This truck definitely pulls much better all around.
The Alliance folks have been great, just had a few issues and they resolved them quickly. We had looked at the 390MP before deciding on the 385FL, but thought the bunk room was not as useful for us as our kids are all grown now. Payload was a concern, truck rated payload is just over 3,900#. Weighed at a Love's and it looks like fully loaded with passengers, pets and gear we are sitting at 3,758#. The large storage bay in the rear of the 385FL has allowed me to put heavier items (Ebikes, grill, etc.) behind trailer axle and remove some weight from the hitch. It was also a reason I went with the GenY hitch instead of a fifth wheel. If we need to boondock and fill our fresh tank up, somethings going to have to go, if it's a very long drive.
Off to the hills
Damn that’s a heavy combo. Do you need a CDL or class B?
Rare but depends on the state. It is much lighter than the huge diesel pushers anybody can drive with a class C. I went to the DMV here in WY b/c I saw that over a certain weight a special endorsement was necessary. I was told to forget it, they are not required anymore and it was not being enforced anyway.
Can’t comment on his state but a regular driver license (class C) in Ga reads:Damn that’s a heavy combo. Do you need a CDL or class B?
Can’t comment on his state but a regular driver license (class C) in Ga reads:
Class C (Non-Commercial and Commercial) - Any single vehicle with a GVWR not in excess of 26,000 pounds; or any such vehicle towing a vehicle with a GVWR, not in excess of 10,000 pounds; or any such vehicle towing a vehicle with a GVWR in excess of 10,000 pounds, provided that the combination of vehicles has a gross combined vehicle weight rating, not in excess of 26,000 pounds, and any self-propelled or towed vehicle that is equipped to serve as temporary living quarters for recreational, camping, or travel purposes and is used solely as a family or personal conveyance. Includes three-wheeled vehicles using a steering wheel.
Exactly, that would include all 40’ diesel pushers and almost all toy hauler RVs. Been driving one or the other for 25 years without issue despite trying to get the endorsement. On the other hand requiring people who just want to go camping to have the same endorsement as a long haul trucker seems like overreach. In any case the RV industry is treated differently than professional drivers. If RV is being pulled for hire by a commercial vehicle and labeled as such, a different set of rules apply. I am not saying either is right just the way it is.
