Another dealer head scratcher. So I bought the grid heater relay myself last week and took it in today to have the local dealer install it. Wanted it documented, or I'd have done it myself. So I hand the service writer the part and he goes to check with the parts dept to make sure it's right. Comes back and says "No, that's the old PN." We had a little discussion about it, as I knew he was wrong. But he said "Don't worry, we have one in stock that we'll put in." I was pretty surprised they did that as I know they have a waiting list for it. I'm on that list.
So I figure what the heck, as long as it's fixed, I don't care who supplies the part. Get it home and check the PN on the new relay against the one I bought, exactly the same part. I guess they are going by the relay number in the recall (CSTP12A1AA), which must be what they have to order. But the actual relay PN is 68606435AB. What a clown show!
I've now learned not to wait for them to call me if I'm on the waiting list. My tranny dipstick recall was fixed the same way. I called them asking about the parts and got a "we have one of those in right now" and I jumped on it. I have one recall left, the particulate filter sensor. They put me on the waiting list of that now, but I'm just going to call them every few days and jump on it when they happen to have one in stock. Seems they put zero effort into contacting folks on the waiting list, and just wait for someone to call in and ask for it. I really wonder if there even is a waiting list or if that is some kind of inside joke at the dealers.
I waited at the dealer for the relay replacement today, and was near the parts dept. A couple came up and asked for a part they had ordered. I overheard them say they'd ordered it months ago, but never got a call when the part came in. It sat there for a while and the parts dept sent it back, since nobody claimed it. So they had to reorder it.
