Does anyone else's HO Cummins squeak/Chirp at startup? This is only the first startup of the day after its sat all night. Didn't do it when it was brand new 3 months ago and started about a month ago.. I love spending 82k on something just to have it sound like i have a bird living in the engine... I will obviously take it to the dealer but wondering if anyone else has/had this and what the dealer did to fix it... Just chirps or squeaks for like 5 minutes then goes away.

And don't say deal with it, it obviously wasn't there when brand new and now has developed so it, shouldn't be a normal sound. Thanks!

Hi DieselDZ,

I certainly understand why this would be concerning. If it would be of interest, I would be happy to have your concerns documented and connect you with a case specialist for an additional layer of assistance as you work with your dealer. Please follow up with me via private message to get the process started.

DieselDZ, I have a 2019 3500 HO and I just noticed this same thing started happening on. The truck has 3800 miles. I was wondering if you could please tell me what you found out what the noise was when you took yours in? I will be getting mine in soon, but was hoping for some reassurance that it is nothing major. Please let me know what you found. Thanks, Adam

I'll be taking it in for it's first 7,500 mile service next week and i'll have them look at it then, its getting worse and just pisses me off every morning. The ****ty thing is that they will have to pull off god only knows how much crap to get a good look and i just didn't want my new truck to have some mechanic tearing it apart at such an early stage of the game. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the update. Here is what I know so far. Mine is faint, but there. Needless to say, its driving me nuts. After checking a few things myself this weekend, I got the idea to dump a little water on the belt, because I had an issue in the past on a boat and I was able to rule out a bearing because the lubrication of the water quieted it right down and if it was a bearing it would have remained. The same thing happened on the truck. One tiny drop of water and the belt was as quiet as can be. After about five minutes when it dried, it was back. I live in PA and called two of the closest dealerships to me and talked to the service departments to ask if they had seen this issue on other 2019 Cummins HO's, they said 3-4. I asked what the fix was and they said a belt change has fixed the problem in all cases. I expect to have it in later this week, but will let you know the outcome. It does seem to me that it will fix the chirp, especially since I can make it come and go with a shot of water. I hope this helps and that this is all it is!

Hey DieselDZ,

Please be sure to keep us updated on your dealer's findings. I would still be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf to connect you with a case specialist who can provide additional assistance while you work with your dealer. Our team is just a PM away.

What kinda soap. Irish spring or Dove
This may sound crazy, but I’ve had success eliminating belt noise on other vehicles by just using a dry bar of soap. Carefully reach in with the engine running and hold the bar of soap up against the belt contact surface. This transfers a minute amount of soap to the belt and acts as a lubricant, but not enough to cause any slippage. I’ll bet the noise will subside.

I'm not soaping down a brand new truck belt. But the trick does work temporally as I have had success in the past. Dealer is ordering a new belt and tensioner. Also going on my third pair of side mirrors because the reverse LED lens keeps getting moisture behind it.

The belt was changed on my truck a week ago and they used a mopar belt. The squeak is gone. I too just noticed moisture in the reverse light of the side mirror. I was hoping the fix wasn’t a new mirror, but sounds like it might be. I will also be sending mine back in for the upgrades from FCA for the ramboxes. The one where the painted cover of the box is falling off.

Update: Truck is fixed, dealer stated the tensioner was seizing up so they replaced it along with a new belt.

Thank you for following up to share the good news, DieselDZ! If you ever happen to experience any additional concerns and you would like an additional layer of support while working with your dealer, our team is always just a private message away.

I have a 2019 3500 with ~8100 miles and am having the same issue. I have had it to Ram 4 times to include today in about 4 weeks. Initially they said it was from the detailing of the engine when new. So they cleaned the belt. It came back, they said the belt had to be replaced, so they did. The noise came back again so they said there is a pulley that needs to be replaced, so they did. On my way home yesterday (01/10/20) from dealership it started again. I drove it today and the noise gradually got worse to the point that I could hear it over the music in my truck while doing 70 (probably less) MPH with traffic. I felt necessary to get off the interstate and called the dealer yet again. They told me to come back, so I did. I contacted Ram Customer Assistance after I got home and was assigned a case number. Did I get a lemon?
