2022 Aisin Failure Tracking Sheet

My dealer is pretty big but unfortunately, is down several techs.
This is an issue with our dealer also. They are budgeted for 25 techs but have only had 14-16 employed, many of them pretty inexperienced. They are a big chain dealer and have bought up most, (maybe all but one), of the dealerships within several hours of me so they have pretty much eliminated any competition in this area. And it seems to customers, (whether true or not I don't know), that they are busy with self paying customers so warranty and recall work is avoided as much as possible. They tell me that Ram does not have parts available for my 21 for the heater relay or 68RFE dipstick and vent recalls.

I am at least fortunate that I do not have to worry about this snap ring like all you folks in this thread. Or the fuel pump. Some good fortune there at least.

not sure if i updated you but im on there (97) tsb arrived around june 1 installed tested and confirmed still broken …based on fca customer care yesterday we are waiting for engineering to proceed with whatever the next step is …8 months counting

TSB I posted was from Jan 2023. As of this morning, according to the dealer that has our truck. There is now a STOP sale on all Aisin Diesels. They cannot sell them until the K1 clutch pack is replaced.
On a side note, stay up to date with what the dealer is doing. they are only replacing the K1 clutch packs. The TSB does not instruct them to flush the transmission, replace the filter, nothing. All they do is drop the trans, and replace the clutch pack through the tail shaft. They dont even drain the fluid, just replace what was lost. I told the service manager that was unacceptable. Her response, "tough ****" thats all the TSB requires and we loose money doing the warranty work.

I told her the TSB says to look for debris, she said, "we do when replacing the clutch pack".

This sounds like Lithia, yes?

I got a call yesterday from the SM at the dealership doing my K1 repair and he said the only thing they were waiting on now was torque converter bolts. If the TSB says to R&R the clutch pack through the tail shaft I wonder why they removed the TC. They also said that the trans fluid was on back order last week. Things that make you go "hmmm..."

I read the TSB. The guts come out the front. TC, oil pump, and K2, K1 clutch packs all come out the front. It does say to use new TC bolts. It also says to drain, the transmission fluid and clean it off.

I appreciate everyone who is contributing to the sheet and helping us to gather info on these failures. We`re close to 50 trucks at this point and growing daily. I`ve been hearing of failures from new owners almost daily. If you are currently on the sheet, please update on the status of your truck as often as you can so that the information reflected is up to date and accurate. Thanks!
2022 RAM 5500 .......6,000 miles.....tranny gave out.... at a stop light. All of lights on the dash as others have experience.....truck was banging and shaking..... was able to drive home at 20 m.p.h. Truck towed to dealer.....issue was a defective wiring module harness for the tranny. Experienced service manager says if you have over 3,000 to 4,000 miles.....the tranny should be OK.....well....????? We shall see.....?

Yeah, I just read it too. It sounds like your SM is feeding you a line crap about not draining the fluid. It's not our problem whether they make money on a repair or not, their job is to fix it and fix it right so we don't have to came back for the same problem.

I hope to get mine back later this week and I might schedule a flush and filter. It really sucks that we have to think like this and spend the extra money, but it sucks more to get stranded on the roadside far from home.

Agreed. I'm going to tell them I'll pay for new fluid and filter, just put them in when they reinstall it.

Finding out that the filter is not changed and the dealership skipped step 6 to check for tolerances before ordering parts; I have filled complaints with the NTSB and FTC. If I dont hear anything today ill start filling with Attorney's General offices and BBB. I will not be one of those people without my truck for 8 months.
I cant even get a case manager via RAM.

I hope everyone that is having, or has had, issues with this transmission failing have reported the issue to the NHTSA. Reporting this issue to the NHTSA is the only way that RAM is going to be held accountable in getting these transmissions fixed. Somehow RAM has managed to avoid having to recall these vehicles. You can report the issue at https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index
You should also we filling a complain with the FTC.

So they replaced the wiring harness and now it’s fine?

To be honest it doesn’t sound like your service department has much of a grasp on how to address this problem properly. Either that or the SM is in need of a career change. In any case I would be reluctant to put much faith in their repair if they failed to check shaft end play before disassembly. They’re also completely incorrect on not doing a full inspection of all internals as well as the fluid and filter change. You will likely have premature failure again, as have many others who have gone through this repair at a dealer that is not properly staffed or equipped to handle it.

I am unaware of a stop-sale for the 2022 Aisin equipped trucks. Did they provide any documentation of this to you?

It is my understanding that the only proactive strategy they have in place right now is the “RSU” or “Rapid Service Update” for the K1 snap ring failure. RSU number 23-065. From what was explained to me, the dealer is given the notice and then is responsible to cross reference their un-sold inventory VIN’s with the VIN’s uploaded to the DealerCONNECT network. They can enter a vin in the system and if the RSU is applicable to the truck, it will populate a red flag. At that point they can order the parts under the TSB and conduct the repair prior to selling the truck (and before it has a chance to fail). I’ll post some pics below of the details:

This should be a topic of discussion between a potential buyer and their salesperson. If you are in the market for a new leftover 2022 Aisin truck, you need to ask your dealer if the VIN was checked in DealerCONNECT to see if RSU 23-065 applies to the truck. If it did, was the repair process carried out and successful. If the answer is “yes”, then please provide documentation to affirm this. If the answer is “no”, then are they willing to do so? If they don’t want to play ball, find another dealer that will.

Did they give you an ETA? Are they doing it ASAP?
Dealer has lied multiple times so far. they said the pulled the codes on the 24th, they did not. they said they ordered everything monday the 26th. I went by there at 1000 monday and service advisor looked up the ticket and said nothing had been done. I was then told that it was being pulled into a bay on wed the 28th. Instead of following the TSB, they dropped the trans pan and found debris. TSB says to drop the transmission and check for play at the input shaft to verify K1 and K2 clutch pack damage. Since they did not do that, they only ordered the K1 on the 28th. It is on a 20 day wait. Once it comes in then they will remove the trans to see if anything else is wrong and order parts at that time. I have argued left and right that the TSB is not being followed causing additional delays.

The dealer does not follow the TSB because it ties up a service bay while waiting on parts. The bad thing is, it screws the customer because they are not ordering all the parts to fix it the first time. Service manager basically told me they would let me know when my truck was done and I hav no input as to how they go about it. RAM Care has been no help. I cant get the case manager to even cal me back.

I was going off what the dealer technician told me. I have not independently verified the stop sale. He could have very well been talking about the RSU.

Wow, sorry you're going through this.

Have you requested to speak with the regional service rep?
