Ram Trucks has officially pulled back the covers of its new Rebel package for the 2023 Ram 2500 at this year’s State Fair of Texas. The new model expands the brand’s off-road dominance with yet another off-road package for customers.
Positioned between the Laramie and Power Wagon models, the new Ram 2500 Rebel utilizes Power Wagon’s structure and off-road prowess as a base while offering an alternative that off-road truck customers have been clamoring for: optional Cummins power.
That’s right, the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel is available with either a standard 6.4-liter HEMI (BGE) V8 delivering 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque paired to a robust 8HP75 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission or the mighty 6.7-liter Cummins I6 turbodiesel with 370 horsepower and 850 lb.-ft. of torque mated to a 68RFE 6-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior cues are shared with the Power Wagon (including the new Sport Performance Hood from Mopar), however, offers a unique off-road suspension, a rear limited-slip differential, rear electronic locker, and 20-inch wheels (18-inch wheels will be available later) with 33-inch off-road tires, and fuel tanks and transfer case skid plating. Cargo tie-downs are standard on Rebel, but of course, a spray-in bed liner, LED bed lighting, and Mopar bed step is available.
Rebel also offers the Power Wagon’s front-mounted WARN Zeon-12 winch, rated at 12,000 lbs. on HEMI trucks. The winch is installed at the factory and features a unique fairlead and fairlead retainer that utilizes a synthetic line that is maneuverable and won’t kink or fray.
Rebel utilizes a five-link coil design that provides enhanced load-carrying characteristics and articulation. An available rear air suspension system is also available and further enhances best-in-class ride and handling qualities. The Rebel has a maximum towing rating of 16,870 lbs. (that is 6,280 lbs. more than the Power Wagon) and a maximum payload of 3,140 lbs. (or 1,510 lbs. more than Power Wagon).
Inside the 2500 Rebel, customers will be able to choose from three different seating options including a cloth bench or bucket seat, a Bristol leather bench or bucket seat, and a full Natura Plus leather bucket seat. Rebel models also feature a 360° Surround-View camera system, which includes forward-view camera guidelines to help navigate obstacles. This system provides a single display-screen view of both sides of a trailer to assist drivers in maneuvering towing setups. A new available 12-inch frameless digital gauge cluster features nearly two dozen different menus. The full-color cluster features five reconfigurable tiles for at-a-glance data or quick and easy access to the most used information. Drivers may choose between analog or digital instrumentation. All cluster settings can be saved to a user profile.
Rebel models also feature available safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Full-Speed Forward-Collision Warning-Plus, Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Monitoring (BSM), and Cross-Path Detection. There is also the ability for automatic headlamps, a digital rearview mirror with tow mode, and rain-sensitive windshield wipers.
The 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel, like the Power Wagon, is only available in a Crew Cab with a 6-foot, 4-inch box configuration. It will have a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $67,045 (excluding $1,895 for destination).
The Rebel will go on sale in Q4 2022.
