CAUGHT: Completely Uncovered 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon:
TFLTruck Has Three Images Of Production-Ready 2019 Ram Power Wagon...
Our spy photographers have been chasing the upcoming 2019 Ram Heavy Duty all over Metro Detroit. As of lately, most of the prototypes have ditched their heavy black vinyl camouflage for the black and white decals. This has allowed our spy photographers to get a look more depth details of all the trucks.
Over the weekend, our friends at TFLTruck.com have gotten their hands on some exciting photos of the upcoming 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon. Apparently, a viewer of theirs caught a black 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon entirely without camouflage at a Kroger’s grocery store only a few miles from the Chrysler Tech Center (CTC).
The truck looks fantastic, blending the best of the 4th generation Ram Heavy Duty with the updated looks of the all-new 5th generation Ram 1500. Gone is the Power Wagon’s rounded top of the “Ram Off-Road” style grille as it gets a similar styling to the more angled 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel grille. New LED signature daytime running lights give the 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon an aggressive look to the front end. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Power Wagon without the built-in factory Warn winch in the front bumper, and it looks to still be available for 2019 as the opening is still the front bumper.
Out back, we see the 4th generation Ram box has been updated with those new Ram tail lamps that look to be very similar to the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel’s. The tailgate has a few changes while still retaining the same oversized “RAM” text in the center. The tailgate release handle looks like its electronic as the 2019 Ram 1500s are, and it has a similar body line to the 2019 Ram 1500s below that aforementioned RAM text. That text is different from the smaller font on the Rebel’s for the 2019 model year. While we figured they retro-fitted the 2019 Ram 1500 rear bumper, it is clear that the Heavy Duty bumper is a lot bigger. It is similarly styled, using the 1500s LED license plate lights and similar low step bumper design.
From the side, we see the 2019 Power Wagon gets the same wheel flares as the 2016 Ram Macho Power Wagon Concept from Mopar. The mirrors for the 2019 model year have been updated as well. There are what looks to be cameras sticking out from just below the mirror where it mounts on the door, presumably to offer a 360 degree surround view camera. The mirror caps also appear to be painted. While the Power Wagon decals are absent on this early-production model, as it shows that the new Heavy Duty badging has been moved up to the hood like the 2019 Ram 1500, it also appears that the badging is painted black.
What is very strange about these photos, is that it looks to be almost “staged.” The truck itself is not occupied, however, the headlights and running lights are on. It does not look like the truck is running in the photo, since it has been cold weather during the past week in the Detroit area and exhaust would have clearly be seen. FCA has let certain material slip into public hands before, and this wouldn’t surprise us, considering all of the security of its Heavy Duty prototypes as of lately to have one just running around on the streets of suburban Detroit without any camouflage on.
We can’t wait to see this truck in person when it debuts at the 2019 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, this January.
