Stellantis Recalls Over 211,000 Vehicles Due to ABS Software Malfunction

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 211,581 units of 2022 Dodge Durango (WD), Ram 2500 (DJ), and Ram 3500 (D2) vehicles due to a software malfunction, the ABS control module may disable the electronic stability control (ESC) system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems.” Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system can increase the risk of a crash.

Recall Chronology –
- On March 2, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to a software condition within the ABS that could disable the ESC on some 2022 MY Ram 2500, Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, and Dodge Durango vehicles.
- From March 2023 through November 2023, FCA US TSRC analyzed ABS control module warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records to understand potential customer consequences.
- From November 2023, through March 2024, FCA US TSRC met with FCA US engineering and manufacturing to review the issue, understand the failure mode, and determine the suspect population.
- On April 24, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue on certain vehicles related to a condition that can disable the ESC, potentially resulting in noncompliance with FMVSS No. 126 S5.1.2.
Remedy –
Dealers will update the ABS control module software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 55B.
