Ram Brand Has Good First Quarter In North America Market, Despite COVID-19 Crisis:
Ram Trucks Has 3% Increase In U.S. During First Quarter...
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has released its official sales numbers for the first quarter of 2020. While the company experienced strong momentum in January and February of sales, it was more than offset by the negative economic impact of the COVID-19 (or Coronavirus) in the month of March. Let’s take a look at how the Ram Brand did in North America.
United States:
“Our dealers have once again stepped up as pillars of the community as they have continued to provide critical support to our customers on the road,” said U.S. Head of Sales Jeff Kommor. “Many have taken extraordinary steps, ranging from enhanced sanitizing protocols for their showrooms to the offer of home delivery and other concierge services to keep consumers safe. I applaud all of them for their efforts.”
For the quarter, U.S. sales were 446,768 vehicles compared with 498,425 for the same period a year earlier. Retail sales were 306,898 vehicles for the quarter. Fleet accounted for 31% of total sales. Overall, the Ram Brand was the only brand to show a gain with 3% to 140,486 vehicles. Of that, 128,805 of Ram sales were that of the brand’s pickup lineup. That lineup consists of the 2020 Ram 1500, 2020 Ram Heavy Duty lineup, 2020 Ram Heavy Duty Chassis Cab lineup, and the 2020 Ram 1500 Classic.
Canada:
FCA Canada sales for the first quarter of 2020 were 44,140 vehicles compared with 54,336 for the same period a year earlier. While the negative economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis had a factor in the decline in sales, a majority of the decline can be attributed to a reduction in fleet sales of 28% compared to the first quarter of 2019. Quarterly highlights included a spike in Ram Heavy Duty pickup sales, which were up 50% to 3,282 units. Overall, Ram Trucks sales were flat year over year, with 19,179 units sold during the quarter.
“We want to thank the dealers who have been able to remain open during these difficult times in order to ensure that all Canadians’ transportation needs are met, especially our nation’s first responders and health professionals,” said FCA Canada President and CEO Dave Buckingham.
Mexico:
FCA México reported that the Ram Brand had its best first quarter in the brand’s history in Mexico with 7,110 units sold. Ram Light Duty trucks made up 3,438 units of the total, which were up 95% compared to the same time period last year. The Ram 4000 doubled its sales numbers versus what it did in 2019.
“In March, the RAM brand reported the best first quarter in its history thanks to the versatility of its products, which range from work vehicles to lifestyle, adapting to different sectors and customers,” said Bruno Cattori, President and CEO of FCA Mexico.
