Towing question

So they are the same axle just rated differently? That's weird...
From what i can tell yes all the parts seem to be the same when i was looking up same part numbers

I wouldn't want to tow at 80% of capacity. If I would prefer 50-60% even if it meant buying a 1 ton or even a drw 1 ton. Less strain on the trans and rear axle

Thats a bit of a silly notion as they already build in a safety factor so at max cap there is still around 25% true capacity left

I am saying towing long trips. Thats why the 1 ton has a different trans.

My truck 2500 tradesman crew, short bed 6.7 rated at 18,290 with the 3.73. 80% towing would be 14,632
Ram 3500 crew, 8ft 6.7 HO w3.73 rated at
25,120 so 60% towing would be 15,072
Ram 3500 crew, 8ft. 6.7 HO w 4.10 rated at 34,120 45% towing would be 15,354

So if I was going to take long trips towing a 14k trailer I would buy the 3500 w 3.73.
If it was a 5th wheel more wind resistance I would be better off with 4.10 for less strain over the lifetime of the truck.

Towing at 80% on flat ground with no wind might work but I don't live anywhere like that. I am not pulling that kind of weight so my 18,290 towing capacity works for me .

The axles "should" have a set rating by the manufacturer, regardless of what vehicle they are under. Having multiple different ratings doesn't make sense to me.

This was the door tag to my 2019 CC/SB 4x4 6.4L 3.73 Loaded Bighorn. It had the 5th wheel prep, maybe that steps up the rear end rating?
