Steering wheel controls stop working

Same issue. Truck is now a year old and has been into service 9 times for the buttons. Anyone on hear running a banks pedal monster? Dealer said they think it could be the problem?
I’m running a Banks Pedal Monster, and the problem has happened to me at least a dozen times but only ever when the Pedal Monster is installed. I wonder how many impacted people have Pedal Monsters? Correlation is not causality but it’s an interesting data point to me that every single instance of the steering wheel button failure has occurred when the Pedal Monster is installed.

I’ve had the same problem with my 2024 RAM 3500 MegaCab Cummins with 29,000 miles: the left side steering wheel controls (and back buttons) randomly quit working every 1,200-3,000 miles.

Truck has been taken to 2 dealers at least 7 times for: clock-spring replacement; left button replacement; right button replacement. Problem always returns after 1-4 months of driving.

Disconnecting the battery will fix the buttons for a few days or weeks, but the problem always returns.

One potential cause: the problem has only ever happened when my Banks Pedal Monster is installed. Of the 12+ times the buttons have quit working, 100% of the time it’s been when my Banks Pedal Monster is installed (I remove it when going to the dealer). I can’t say for sure but have wondered if the Pedal Monster might rarely trigger a current/short circuit issue that requires a battery reset. Correlation is not causality, but having the problem ONLY ever occur when the Banks is installed, at least 12 times over the past 10 months and 29,000 miles, is suspicious to me.

Will try pulling the fuse F82 instead as others have suggested, maybe replacing it. Not sure what to do at least point except to either leave the Banks Pedal Monster out permanently, or ask Banks to send me a new one in case that’s the root cause and it has a hardware defect.

How many others are using the Pedal Monster?
Me! Got one and happened to me.
I don’t think the pedal monster is part of the equation.
In my opinion, there has to be something with the wire routing and positive connections that has to be the root cause here after reading through all this.
Parts changing may in fact solve the issue.
Just my $0.02

I've changed all three known problem parts already. I could ask them to change the clockspring a second time, but unless there was a bad batch with many affected clocksprings (and even if there was), it seems a second changing of that part has a low probability of fixing the issue. Could be a loose or exposed wire elsewhere in the system, too, perhaps not even remotely related to steering wheel buttons circuit.

Most of the time, when I've observed those left and rear buttons have stopped working, it's after a remote start (either via the keyfob or the RAM app). Not sure if that has anything to do with it. It's a frustrating problem when you're towing and badly need those buttons to configure trailer type, trailer TPMS (which is also horrendously buggy!), and so forth... hope a root cause is eventually found by someone. My truck has already spent 1 month of its life in the shop for this issue on at least 7 different occasions.

I continue to think it's a wiring/routing/connector issue, and we all do different fixes that end up manipulating something that temporarily fixes it.

My first clock spring didn't fix it. The 2nd one did. That was almost 3 months ago and so far so good, but I fully expect it to happen again.

2023 2500 tradesman. Since Oct ‘24 I’ve had issues with my clockspring. Same problems as listed in other posts. Left sided steering wheel controls go out and unable to scroll through dash menus/reset service intervals when I change my oil or fuel filters.

I’m on my 3rd clockspring in my truck (which has now gone out in less than a month after most recent repair). I’ve been submitting expenses for warranty reimbursement (which takes several months). I refuse to take it to the dealer because they want to keep my truck for ~4 days for “diagnostics” and then another 4-5 for part ordering and replacement. Ridiculous. I’ve been taking it to a highly reputable diesel shop for the repairs. They literally diagnose and replace the part in under an hour.

Now about to be my 4th clockspring in this vehicle. I love this truck but this is ridiculous Ram has not figured out a solution for this issue. I have 35k miles on it and no other problems.

This is my trip to the shop and no other issues since

Tried the battery reset. Was a short solution prior.

'24 RAM 2500 MegaCab with a Banks Pedal Monster!!! My dead steering wheel controls occurred with only 2000 miles on the truck, but as above, Pedal Monster is on the truck. I'm going to disconnect the Banks unit and reset the SCCM with a battery disconnect and then run without the Pedal Monster and see what happens. For the sake of troubleshooting for the community here, I'll deal with the terribly slow throttle response for a while....

This issue continues to get more convoluted...

I have a Banks pedal monster but all my buttons have been working fine for about 7K miles since the last occurrence and dealer service (unplugged/re-seated and re-routed left switch cabling/connector to SCCM). However, now I've probably gone and jinxed it.

Any updates from anyone? Mine just started doing this today!! Same switches as everyone else. Volume up/down, channel up/down, and left side wheel switches. Cruise works fine. Do not have a pedal
Monster. Unplugged the battery and they work again.

Since mine hit the shop and did the work performed as I previously posted no issues since.

And out the shop the banks went right back on it

So my 2nd visit to the dealer for this issue.
They not only kept my truck for a week but they replaced the clock spring after waiting for parts. Now its working…..1 month later it stopped working again!!!! So damn frustrating. Mine is completely stock.

I had a feeling the clock spring was not the solution. This is not a wiring or part issue.
Because if it was why doing a battery reset it all of sudden works instantly again? Think about it. It has nothing to do with wiring loose. This issue is clearly a software or hardware issue, disconnect battery and all the modules shut down and resets. Plug it back in and works perfectly again?
definitely a programming software problem.
Anyways Ive made a 3rd appointment with dealer and this will be the Lemon Law 3rd attempt at repairing the same problem.
If not fixed lemon law it will be.
I work for dealerships I know how 3rd comebacks are, they must be repaired.

Hope this helps anyone out there with this same problem cause I really like this truck but if I knew how ****ty the software is on this truck from the start I would’ve never traded my 4th gen Ram as this truck never gave me any issues!

Also will
update what happens on this 3rd attempt at repairing.

Thanks. Steering wheel and media hub! Let’s see what they do to mine. It doesn’t go in until the 18th.

Thanks for letting me know. Will advise how mine goes.

My understanding from an attorney here in Louisiana that the truck had to be unusable (unable to drive) to qualify for the lemon law here in Louisiana.
Had a new ford take 4 trips to the shop for AC going out within the first year of owning it and I if I remember correctly it was like 60 days at the dealer total for the 4 repair attempts.

This is exactly what I've been thinking. The culprit being loose connections or poorly routed wires just doesn't make sense when removing power from the system via battery disconnect seems to reset everything. With that said, I'm convinced its a software issue and I'm still driving with Pedal Monster disconnected to see where that gets me. I'm not sure that has anything to do with it, but w/o a solution from @RamCares we've got to keep trying things ourselves until someone figures it out.

Certainly not what I expect when dropping $80k for a new truck...

Except the battery disconnect doesn't work for everyone, I tried it multiple times with no luck. But I get what you are saying, seems like an electronic problem.

My 2nd clock spring replacement fix has so far been good, around 3 plus months out and it's been working since. But as I keep saying, I fully expect it to come back.

Well 2023 3500 limited mega cab here. 12k miles just lost all controls on the left side of the wheel. 1st time it happened. Going to try to disconnect the batteries later today

Add me to the list. 2024 3500 Laramie 1,900 miles. Left side controls, and controls on both sides of the rear stopped working today. Cruise (right side) worked fine as did the horn. Removed fuse 82 and put it back in. Everything started working again. Most of the fuses seemed like they weren't pushed in quite all the way, but were plenty snug. Haven't contacted dealer yet.

The previous post about lose connectors made the most sense to me initially because replacing clocksprings, buttons etc might have caused that same connector to be unplugged and plugged in more securely, however, I am not sure how me removing the fuse and putting it back in would correct a lose connection in the steering wheel.

Hi all - wound up here a couple of days ago, trying to find out why my steering wheel buttons stopped working and the heated steering wheel feature seemed to be hotter that normal. Bought a 2024 Ram Laramie a year and 30,000 miles ago. Add me to the list!

Timeline - Two weeks ago the dash stayed lit up, with the "put foot on brake and push button to start" message. The buttons alongside the raido display also stayed lit up. This past Thursday all seemed well. Friday the the buttons on the steering wheel stopped working. The heated steering wheel was hotter than normal. We drove it all day Saturday. Parked it Saturday night around 8, went to start it Sunday afternoon around 2 and it was dead. Wouldn't start from the jump pack. Figured the jump pack needed a charge. Put the jump pack on to charge, this evening we're still not running. It clicks but won't turn over. Anyone have any suggestions? We were heading to a garage for an appointment tomorrow - they are thinking clock spring. But if we can't get it running.....

Buy new, get the warranty, no worries. Hahaha. I'm seriously considering selling all the new stuff and investing in a 1983/1985 Squarebody Chevy.

I keep my eyes open for squarebody's ... not sure I'll ever jump on it, but would enjoy having one. I had a series of '90's vintage diesels, have thought about finding an early 6.2.

Sorry you are added to the growing list! I really don't think there's going to be an "aha!" moment where someone finds the problem and no more hunting connections or replacing parts. I do hope it happens, just doesn't seem to be headed that way.
