Oil Thread - 6.4 Hemi

it is normal for a little tick after being parked I would not worry about it. I really doubt it was the filter but anything is possible with a mechanical machine. I actually am surprised sometimes how quiet an engine can be. I went with my neighbor this morning to pick up a trailer in his new ford 7.3 and omg is that quiet and smooth. If you want to feel bad about how ours sound park next one of those running.

I've seen a couple bad anti drainback valves in my day. Actually the last one was a Mopar filter on an 02 4.0 Grand Cherokee. Switched to a Wix and never heard it again.

That being said the Jeep did eventually munch a piston skirt requiring a rebuild.... Super awesome...

How many miles is on your rig now? And have you considered a different filter than the Mopar that has a better anti drainback valve? I have theories going right now...
20,000 ish miles I’ve done 4 oil changes on it

I’m using Wix xp now and it still does the same thing.

I’m driving my truck less now that I’ve gotten my beater Porsche back together, so it’s more often that the truck ticks on startup. When I was driving it every single day, it was less noticeable.

Just changed mine and went back to pup after 5k. Getting ready to go on a trip for a bit and wanted to do it before I left. Fyi on amsoil. For me, it was by far the noisiest and got there the quickest. I don't see myself going back to it.

I trust PUP or in PUP I trust lol. I just had Amazon deliver me some. I have 3 oil changes sitting on my self..makes me feel warm and fuzzy...

I really want to use Schaeffer's in my 2022 at the 1st change, but until I can get them to techsheet out the MS-A0921 spec. alignment, I just don't want the warranty hassle.

I guess I'll run PuP until this criteria is met.

that is wise. RAM is pretty specific in the owners manual regarding oil cert. I know guys blow it off and cite MM act but not worth it to me. I have run PUP in all my FCA vehicles since 2012 and no reason to stop.

I know their oil is not what it used to be......but I just can't bring myself to buy Pennzoil lol
I'm with ya. I've seen too many early deaths from Pennzoil. I'm a Valvoline diehard. I've gotten 300 k plus from multiple vehicles with no issues.

Not sure who needs to see this, but figured it would be helpful to someone…the oil filter always makes such a mess. Cover the tie rod and frame with a foil-luge down into a 5 gal bucket. Still have to clean up a bit in the plastic funnel thing they put under the filter, but it’s better than nothing. I also put some foil over the sway bar to keep oil drips off when removing/installing the filter

Just did my 1st oil change on the 2022 6.4 hemi. Had to go with a WIX 57060 filter because that’s all the store had. Opinion on that brand and what is the Mopar oil filter #?

The Wix is a good filter. The standard Wix/Napa Gold filter is more efficient at filtering small particles than the Wix XP. The Mopar filter is 4892339ab (MO-339). They are supposedly made by Purolator but to Mopar specs. I have also ran the larger MO-899 filter on my 22’ 6.4. I have run a Fram Ultra XG2 and it is a really good filter.

Run it and be happy. They are good filters with better efficiency at a smaller micron than most others.

Good info for others. Based on the info that Fram provides on their website, that does appear to be a good filter. 99% at 20 microns is about the best you will find out there.
IIRC, the WIX is rated at 21 micron.

Ok. Got 4 Napa Golds for like $36 with my AAA discount. So I’m set for a while.

What change interval would you use for these filters and AMSoil 0-40? I’m still tempted to do 5,000 miles but could be convinced otherwise.

The oil change interval would be dependent on your usage and weather but 5000 should be good if you don’t do a lot of idling or all stop and go city driving. I change mine @ 4000 using Pennzoil Ultra 0-40 but my truck is 8 months old with only 6000 miles on it. I live 20 miles from town and try not to have to go more than once a week. I have a Fram Ultra 10060 on it currently.

I do ~5000 miles. It usually shows in the 30% ish range on the oil life page.

I change my oil when I get dry ticking on startup which I believe shows an aging ADBV in the oil filter and it’s time for a fresh one. The oil is probably good for many more miles. The oil change and fresh filter always fixes the startup dry tick

I just switched to a WIX XP filter on this oil change so maybe I’ll get more life out of the filter this go-round. I was using mopar filters previously.

So, do you have to mess with buttons for an indication of needing a change or does the truck come out and say so?
If it does say so, will it do that repeatedly?…I might miss it while ignoring beeps, chimes and such.
It had a change when I bought it at 13k..now high 17’s and mostly towing. Think it will go off soon?

I’ve never driven it to the end of the oil life indicator but I imagine it gives you a full page warning. It does take a few button presses to get to the oil life % page and you can reset the life there when you do the change.

I used PUP 0w40 and Mobil 1 0W40 in both my 2018 and 2022 6.4. The owners manual says any quality synthetic 0W40 oil can be used as long as it carries the API certification. The reason why Mobil 1 doesn't have that Chrysler specific number is because after they were bought by FIAT, Pennzoil was the oil used by Ferrari, so all of FCA switched to that specific brand. Mobil 1 will be just fine in the same viscocity.

The filter should still be changed at the standard manufacturer interval, so go by the oil life monitor. As for AMSOIL, you can definitely go beyond the standard interval. I've got an oil analysis to over 10k miles and it's still rocking right along. I will be changing it soon though as I've got a 3,000 mile trip coming up at the end of the month.

I pull a 7k TT and drive 9 miles one way to work, the oil has held up really well to those conditions.
