WIX or Amsoil filters are very good.
Last time I looked Amsoil didn’t make a filter for the Hemi?

Just because an oil is the same weight doesn't mean it has the same additive package as the manufacturers approved spec fluid. Regardless, I don't have the checking account to pay for as many lawyers as FCA does should any warranty issues ever arise that could be pointed to a particular fluid usage so I'll just run what I know is approved.Under it law it doesn't matter what brand of oil you use, just need to use the correct viscosity.
Hahahaha!!Sounds like we have the same checking account
Being down on the Border where you are, I’d run a 5W-40. I’ve been thinking of using Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40. I know it’s a diesel oil but it has SN gasoline certification. I’m still waiting on my 1st required oil change. I’ve changed it once already at 768 miles and I have 2700 miles on it now total. Got it in September of 21’.After purchasing pup oil from amazon for the first 2 oil changes I decided against giving Jeff Bezos anymore of my hard earned money and started changing my 6.4 with Castrol edge 0w40. Pretty cheap and also in stock at any auto parts store i go to. Its not the oil the book calls for but with over 19000 on my odometer it works for me. Been a Castrol fan for a lot of years.
I never understood the 0W designation. What the hell - is it the consistency of water at 0W?
Thanks, I read the chart - but nowhere does it mention 0W; 5W being the lowest I could find. To me, a non-educated non-scientific nobody, 0W=zero viscosity=water. Unless someone can point out in layman's terms otherwise, it just doesn't compute with me and makes my head spin.![]()
Viscosity Charts - Bob is the Oil Guy
Viscosities can be related horizontally only Viscosities based on 96 VI single grade oils. ISO are specified at 40°C AGMA are specified at 40°C SAE 75w, 80w, 85, 5w, & 10w specified at low temperature. Equivalent viscosities for 100° & 210°F are shown SAE 90 to 250 and 20 to 50 specified at...bobistheoilguy.com
The 0 is the winter oil weight rating. When oil gets cold it thickens. The 0 weight is the thinest viscosity so the oil pump can pick it up and put it in the oiling system as quick as possible. Also makes cranking easier in cold or extremely cold temperatures. The 0w-40 flows like a 0 wt. oil cold and protects like a 40 wt. when at operating temperature. This is made possible with viscosity index improvers (VII,s). The further apart the low number and high number, the more VII’s are used which leads to shearing. (Dropping grade like from a 40 wt. down to a 30 wt.)I never understood the 0W designation. What the hell - is it the consistency of water at 0W?
Excellent! Thanks for the clear explanation. That along with the chart Rockcrawlerdude sent is great. The 0 is the winter oil weight rating. When oil gets cold it thickens. This tick you speak of at 5k miles - is it just the weird Hemi noise or is it a definitive lifter tick noise that goes away after a couple seconds?I use PUP and the mopar filters. I have a wix Xp filter to try this next go-round.
I change the oil when the engine starts to tick at startup which is right on the 5,000 mile mark each time so far. that started as a coincidence but I pay more attention now.
I bought three cases of PUP the other day for $43 each (6qt each) to stock up. Takes 7 quarts so I would say ~$60 per oil change with filter if you DIY
Just the start up oil needing to get up top kinda tick for a few seconds. This tick you speak of at 5k miles - is it just the weird Hemi noise or is it a definitive lifter tick noise that goes away after a couple seconds?
How many miles is on your rig now? And have you considered a different filter than the Mopar that has a better anti drainback valve? I have theories going right now...Just the start up oil needing to get up top kinda tick for a few seconds.
How in the world did I miss that? I've read that thing cover to cover a few times....this is why hemi tick does not bother me too much...page 371 of my owners manual.
Hemi engine (6.4L) at times can tick right after startup and then quiet down after approximately 30 seconds. This is normal and will not harm the engine. This characteristic can be caused by short drive cycles. For example, if the vehicle is started then shut off after driving a short distance. Upon
restarting, you may experience a ticking sound. Other causes could be if the vehicle is unused for an extended period of time, incorrect oil, extended oil changes or extended idling. If the engine continues to tick or if the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) comes on, see the nearest authorized dealer.
maybe if it sets a long time which is pretty rare. It has never done it enough that I gave it a second thought. the chirping that is in another story lol. altho that no longer bothers me as every single 6.4L i have heard does it even tho their owners say otherwise..How in the world did I miss that? I've read that thing cover to cover a few times....
And @jadmt it sounds like you've experienced this too?
Yeah mine just did it this morning for a couple seconds. I think it may be a bad oil filter though as I just changed it on Sunday and it had never done it before that.maybe if it sets a long time which is pretty rare. it is normal for a little tick after being parked I would not worry about it. I really doubt it was the filter but anything is possible with a mechanical machine. I actually am surprised sometimes how quiet an engine can be. I went with my neighbor this morning to pick up a trailer in his new ford 7.3 and omg is that quiet and smooth. If you want to feel bad about how ours sound park next one of those running.Yeah mine just did it this morning for a couple seconds. And yes mine makes the chirping noise for sure as does every other 6.4 I've ever heard. Not worried about that noise.
