Hi, I am looking to upfit a gooseneck hitch for a new Reflection 324MBS fifth wheel. Towing with 2025 Ram 3500 CC short bed 6.7. The setup I’m looking at is the new Moryde Goosetech pinbox with either the BW standard OEM ball or the offset Gen Y ball to go in the factory 5th wheel prep. I would prefer standard ball but willing to go offset if clearance could be a problem.

So does anyone have experience with this new Moryde Goosetech setup, and would you opt for the standard ball or the Gen Y 5 inch offset for more clearance?

I have the Gen Y and certainly do not need any offset on a long bed. Friend of mine has a 3500 SRW Mega cab with the Gen y and no off set. These new 5th wheels have caps designed to give you more clearance. I wouldn't worry about an off set.

My buddy tried to get a full 90 degree but chickened out at about 75 degrees. I cant imagine ever needing to get that sharply turned...but it could happen I guess.
 
I don't know who makes the frames for Grand Design but chances are good it's Lippert. You'll want to make sure whatever goose box you get won't void the frame warranty. I've got the Reese Goose Box and really like it a lot. I've got both the B&W ball which is nice because it and it's chain anchors fit in a bespoke case which sits in the front storage of my 5er. I've also got a Gen Y offset ball that isn't nearly as small and light, nor does it store as easily though it is lightyears better than a regular 5th wheel hitch. There is a newer generation of Gen Y ball that appears to be lighter, has the safety chain hooks incorporated and uses the holes closest to the tailgate. Quite the improvement. I've used the B&W with no problem, but the Gen Y offers a peace of mind that is difficult for me to ignore.
Another reason to choose the Gen Y over the B&W is it provides more room between the tailgate and camper front storage door. This can be important if your approach angle is not perfectly straight on.

Good info, thanks. I did notice the 2nd gen Gen Y offset with the integrated safety chains loops and planned to get that one if I decided on the offset option. Good to know I should be fine with either standard or offset though. As far as the frame goes, I know the Moryde Goosetech is designed to match the geometry of the pinbox it’s replacing so hopefully there are no issues with warranty but definitely something to confirm before purchasing.
 
I’m pretty sure the only gooseneck conversion that doesn’t void the Lippert frame warranty is the Goosebox.

I have the Goosebox and it’s a great hitch, much nicer construction than the Gen-Y’s I’ve been around. I haven’t seen a goosetech in person yet but the photos make the geometry look more like the bolt on adapters than a true conversation.
 
The Brinkley 5th wheels use a Gen Y gooseneck (an upgrade). The frames are built by Lippert, but to Brinkley specifications. A call to Lippert would be prudent to ensure the frame warranty isn't voided.
 
Something else I'll throw out there is that I've heard lots of people put the Goose Box down because it uses an airbag as part of it's suspension.
On my truck I use air bags to reduce roll in the coil spring suspension when towing, they are empty the rest of the time. Our camper's pin weight does vary from time to time and so while I'm adding air to the truck's airbags I also adjust the air bag on the Goose Box. It's as simple as ensuring a white line in a viewing window lines up with an index mark. This gives me a custom tuned suspension for each trip that a unit that relies on rubber pads or bands just can't provide.
Starting from a stop or braking is a completely silent operation, there is no mechanical lag or shifting between the truck and the camper, the connection is firm and positive. My only regret is all the money I wasted on 5th wheel hitches over the years.

My thought with the Moryde is it is designed to absorb the lateral movement at the connection and my truck with the factory air bags will absorb the vertical movement. The Goosetech is also maintenance free versus filling an airbag on the Reese. But if the Reese works really well I’m not opposed to considering it. I’ve heard the Gen Y can be prone to chucking, whereas this Moryde setup may solve for that with the lateral give.
 
I've used my goosebox on both my steel sprung 2500 and previous auto-level 3500. Personally I wouldn't want to go without the airbag in the goosebox, it's very low maintenance for the benefit.

It's riding on a ball. That's all the lateral movement you need. Just like a bumper pull.
 
My 2022 Jayco Pinnacle 5ver frame is Lippert. I am not to concerned with the GenY setup as the majority of the frame failures(frame flex) seemed to be the Grand Design Toy haulers. I have been using the Gen y for 2 years now without any issues.

I don't really see any more chucking than when I had a traditional 5th wheel hitch. Chucking is going to happen with any setup as its caused by road conditions, Gen Y shock absorption does pretty well. They do say you need about 1000 miles of break in however.

Appreciate all this feedback. I suppose you probably can’t go wrong with any of these top brand modern gooseneck pinboxes at the end of the day. The more important decision for me might be the standard ball placement versus 5 inch offset in the short box CC.
 
The Goose box will not work for our upcoming Riverstone legacy as it will not handle the weight. I am planning on a Gen Y as well.

what's new? They said the same for the Andersen ultimate hitch that I used for almost 5 years. Lippert is the exclusive Gooseneck supplier for the industry, imagine that! Also don't tell Brinkley users either, although some money changed hands there as Lippert "approved" it for them. Lots and lots of folks with many different brands are using it just fine.
 
Oh I get that and I don’t think other hitches are a problem. I just have a five year frame warranty with this new trailer and it seems unwise to give that up by going with one of the others

I have had several Curt towing products over the years and they have all worked well and had good prices. However, they have all seemed a bit "clunkier" than their counterparts and tend to rust more.

Looks like that Curt Helux offers both traditional 5th wheel and a gooseneck option.

Still have to think the tried and true Goosebox or FlexAir with a tunable airbag is a better option if you're going to replace a pinbox for something with a cushion/shock.
