I need new batteries. Why?

Long story short. We parked the truck for 3 weeks because of travel. My wife tried to start the truck and couldn't. I just tried to jump it and it wouldn't. They are dead. A couple of questions:

1. Is this expected behavior?. Do I need to take it to a dealer and have "this issue" fix? This is a 2023 Laramie.
2. I read that OEM batteries are not that great, what are the best options for replacement?

3 weeks of sitting without a maintainer is no surprise they went dead. The second AGM you listed will be plenty for your needs

I have had my 2022 Bighorn set for 2.5 weeks, never had any problems with it starting, IMO I think the more accessories your vehicle has that are in need of power is what is most likely draining your batteries, even though they should go to sleep and not need lots of power...

Do you have a disconnect? Its not uncommon for batteries to have issue after sitting in a modern vehicle since these new vehicles draw 80 miliamp even when off

No cut off. It is a tradesman with no added electronics so maybe that helps. It’s just my tow rig. I’ll take it out once a month during the winter just to knock the dust off it.

Im surprised my 19 batteries are still good they have good CCA still and i use my truck to plow i guess the dual alt really helps keep them charged, but the truck sits max one day at times

And if you're going to park long term without a maintainer, one of these for emergencies. Use camelcamelcamel to catch them on sale.

You could probably drop down one model but I got stranded once with a smaller (other mfr) model once.

Sitting all winter without a maintainer and only short runs once a month is death to a battery.

That said, a good charger may be able to bring them back to life.

It's also possible one of them went sideways and killed the other. Dual batteries should always be replaced in pairs even if just one tests bad.

I ordered a new truck in 2004 with the H.O. diesel. My batteries lasted 17 years in that truck! I only replaced them because i thought the motor was beginning to turn over a bit slower than normal when cold starting. I can only hope I get half that out of my 2021!

I had a similar issue. Mine lasted about 3 years then after sitting for a month had to be swapped.

The one you posted is a good unit aswell i have one of the same brand on my backhoe it was free as it was used and it has been a solid unit for the 8 years its been in use by me

I assume you dont get cold winters then?

You wont unfortunately these days its hard to get 5 years out of a battery

Price/performance.

I have both brands but all my "Tender" brands are just the small battery models. The truck gets the NoCo stuff.

The NoCo is also a better setup IMHO to (semi) permanent mount under the hood as it comes with a velcro strap/bracket. Rescue and override mode to charge "dead" batteries.
