I need new batteries. Why?

I ordered a new truck in 2004 with the H.O. diesel. My batteries lasted 17 years in that truck! I only replaced them because i thought the motor was beginning to turn over a bit slower than normal when cold starting. I can only hope I get half that out of my 2021!
Oem batteries used to set the standard. Heck, old batteries in general spoiled us. Nowadays they supposedly don’t use virgin lead as in the past. Combine that with the much higher electrical demands of vehicles and you get the picture.

If my truck is going to sit more than 2-3 days I plug it into my NOCO Genius 5.

I like the NOCO Genuius models because they stop applying charge voltage when the batteries have a 100% SOC and will start charging again as needed. Cheaper tenders won’t do that and can easily overcharge your batteries.

If you invest in a jump starter definitely get 2. There are plenty of Youtube vids on these trucks where 1 isn't enough. One on each battery at same time will usually get it done. I have 2 cheap GOOLOO GT4000S rated at 4k amps which is what the top NOCO model offers. They're usually on sale on Amazon for about $100 with a lot of good reviews and even tested on RAM 3500 with multiple jumps before recharging. Whatever model you get, get the carrying case too and you can keep it in the truck. The case keeps them fairly insulated from the heat/cold.

Buy cheap you get cheap, my NOCO 4k had no issue starting my second gen in -30 with 15w40 oil in the sump…. Spend the money buy one NOCO, when on sale the 4k can be as low as 230$ CAD

The oem batteries kinda suck.

Should get better life out of the new battery.

I have a battery tender brand maintainer on my Toyota that lives in the trailer and I keep one on the jeep in the garage. Nice units from what I can tell

While we are on the subject,

What’s everyone’s preferred flavor of battery on these trucks? I was a diehard optima guy circa 2010, but they truly don’t seem to be the half of what they used to be. Especially for the price.

I’m a big fan of the Walmart ever start platinum agm. They are $175ish. 4 year free replacement. I’ve bought 4 of them all lasted 5 years +. One was sold with my truck , mine on a sprinter is still working 5 years later

I pretty much buy Interstate. Had them in my 01 and they lasted a long long time. Use their marine deep cycle for my boat. Haven’t had to warranty any so can’t comment on that.

Do you plug the NOCO to the main battery (left) or Aux (right)? I’m assuming left

I just took my batteries to a place to get recharged (for free). The guy said they are good. Car works, should I still get new batteries?

Connet to the driver's side on the BMS connector. Both batteries will get equal amount needed since they are in parallel.

NOCO seems to be a preferred brand in North America.
In Asia it is CTEK (Swedish brand) and I see a lot of CTEK chargers / maintainers on industrial equipment in Australia.
I have CTEK on my bike in Thailand and 2 CTEK chargers on my bike and a vehicle in Canada.
Good brand, no complains about their chargers but if I need another one, I'd likely buy NOCO, they appear to be a bit cheaper.
