Halogen to OEM LED swap

Wanted to chime in on this as well. Bought a set of OEM LED reflectors and the dealership could not enable them either. Guess I'll have to use the info here to get them to work.

I think HDRams needs to host a dealer training day.

It’s not that they don’t know how, it’s that they don’t have the ability to do it. The tool that they use isn’t like AlfaOBD where they are able to pick and choose what individual settings to enable. All they are capable of doing is adding the sales code to your VIN, and update the vehicle configuration with the settings associated with that sales code enabled. The issue with a dealer trying to enable only the settings for the LED headlights is two-fold
1) The sales code LPX is for the mid level headlights, but they are only available as part of a package, so the sales code would enable other LED settings in the BCM.
2) FCA only allows certain sales codes to be available to be added to a particular VIN as a dealer installed option. Usually it is only sales codes that they have a kit for, such as remote start, otherwise, when the tech searches for the sales code to add in wiTECH, it will be grayed out and unselectable. In order to have it made available to that particular VIN, the service advisor would have to call the area rep, who, in turn, would have to call FCA warranty information center, and ask if they can add the sales code to the list for that VIN. They could easily (and usually do) say no, end of story.

Basically what I was told. At least they were nice enough to bring me to the back and show me why it wouldn't work. Guess I'll need to dive into the world of alpha OBD. Hope I can figure it out.

Just to clarify, if I buy the obdlink mx+, kaodtech cable and then download the alphaOBD app I can make this work? Is there other options for the obdlink (looks to be on backorder on amazon) or should I just stick with this specific model. Guess I jumped the gun buying headlights not knowing fully how to get them to work.

Yes. You can get the LX instead of the MX+. The only differences are, LX is not iOS compatible (but neither is AlfaOBD), and the LX is not fully capable for GM and Ford buses.

Just to clarify. You're going to pay for the app from Google Pay, or pay for a license for Windows (discount available for 2nd purchase).

As Jimmy indicated, the LX will work for most users that don't need to use it with iOS and/or need GM or Ford bus access (MX+ let's you choose a license for one included in the price)

Awesome, thank you! Just ordered the cable. Will prob order the rest tomorrow.

I saw the alphaOBD app in the Google Play store for $50. Are you saying that if I buy the MX+ that is included, or their is an additional app I need to get if I don't buy the LX instead of the MX+. Sorry for the confusion, I'm very new to this and was hoping to avoid it, but luckily you all know what's up. Thanks.

You'll get the cable from Kaodtech, which it sounds like you already purchased. They ship very fast also.

You'll buy and download the AlfaOBD app from the Play store.

You'll buy the OBDlink LX from Amazon.

Once you have all of these things, you'll install the bypass cable, connect to the LX that is attached to the OBD2 port, then open and use the AlfaOBD app to change the settings you need.

Take your time and follow the guides that are around for things. I just used AlfaOBD for the first time this evening and made the actual transmission gear display in the EVIC, changed tire size, and disabled for dropout. It took a couple of tries to get the hang of things, but it isn't that bad.

Thanks for dumbing this down for me, I appreciate it.

I still nominate Jimmy to school the dealers (okay, only the cool ones). I'll buy the donuts.

I ordered my OEM LED front lights from BAM wholesale parts but am still waiting on them. They are supposed to be back in stock this week. They were a little over $400.00 for each side. Part #68360179AC and 68360178AC. Total to include shipping was $842.38. I already have AlfaOBD installed and working. Just waiting on the lights.
I've got my lights just waiting on the parts to make them work. Did you get your's up and running yet?
