Fuel System Failure?

I posted info about this on another forum, and it was immediately labeled a troll post. I gave the benefit of the doubt. Now???

I don’t know about the OP, but I'm another disappointed owner here as well. My 2019 2500 (4 months old) left my family on the side of the road a few weeks ago. Towed to the nearest dealership. It is about 1-1/2 hours from home. CP 4 failure and metal shavings from the pump went into the fuel system. Can’t get a loaner or rental due to FCA corona virus restrictions. Pump apparently isn’t being manufactured due to corona virus. Backordered until October or November. So maybe i will get it back in 4 months of sitting in the shop.

FCA de-escalated my case back down so they will not buy it back or replace it. I’m basically stuck without a vehicle for months. I have to get to work. I ask FCA about a discount to trade it in. The said it’s possible and would let me know. Every time I email them with a couple of questions, the respond a few days later with an answer to one. Then I have to re-ask my questions again, since they weren’t answered, and wait another few days hoping for a response. Now they won’t answer my call or return emails.

Itraded it for a 2020 3500 at the dealer where it sits and lost all the equity in my other one. I basically had no other choice. I needed a vehicle. I am hoping the pump lasts at least a few years until I can trade it in on another manufacturer’s truck. The one I drove home yesterday was my 9th dodge truck and 10th FCA vehicle. It will be my last.

My 2019 Ram 2500 had the same CP 4 failure and metal shavings from the pump went into the fuel system, 6,200 miles on the truck. Trucks been in the shop since July 23rd 2020, and parts aren't expected in until Nov 23rd at the earliest. FCA/RAM CARES/less de-escalated my case, even after 1 month straight in the shop, and with over 4 more months of waiting to go, I asked 4 times for a replacement and FCA denied every attempt. Hired a lawyer and RAM Cares/less told me hiring a lawyer didn't "help my case". I guess I should've been happy walking for 5 month while making a truck payments.

I had to buy another truck just to have something to drive, FCA/RAM wouldn't even give me a rental (unless I paid up front and waited 5 months for a reimbursement ). My truck is still setting in the shop awaiting parts, while FCA still refuses to help in any way. I couldn't even get a RAM Care manager to return my call, had her subordinate call and say " she had nothing new to say".

Wow! I can’t believe this is happening I am such a big fan of the Cummins and WAS ready to go on a new truck, I hope the FCA reads these forms which I doubt. I can honestly say I am not going to be buying a ram when reading about customer service like this. I realize there are always problems to be worked out but this is not acceptable. I hope they get you on the road soon,

Sounds like FCA issued a threat because you hired a lawyer. Get all you can! What is the lemon law in your state?

If you really have retain a lawyer, I would stop communicating with FCA and allow your lawyer to handle it. Including posting on internet forums about it. Your lawyer should have advised that.

Yes, Kentucky.

CS at Ram care, I called to asked why the parts were taking so long and did the have my truck listed as NOR (not on the road), she asked "what did you do to help your case" I told her I had called the service center that day, she said " NO... I mean the attorney you hired" She acted like they were offended I was mad about not having my truck for 2 months.

You've lawyered up. Now the FCA lawyers are involved. Enjoy the ride.

This is insanity, very verry unsettling to think this can happen In the middle of death valley with nothing around for hundreds of miles hauling your home in 110 degree temperature. No shoulders to pull off on, no stations to limp to, no tow truck for vehicle and house, not the best looking neighbors to walk up to four help, with wife and 2 - 10lb dogs. Makes me nervous as Hades every time we leave home

I don’t even own one of these trucks and this is starting to drive me crazy... Ask FCA if the pump you’re waiting on is updated.
If it isn’t you‘ve got to wonder why it’s taking so long to get one. This is just a guess on my part but wouldn’t you think there are plenty of them going to the factory in Mexico since they opened it in early September for the 2021 HD trucks. Maybe they’re just more worried about building trucks instead of taking care of problems existing trucks have just a guess on my part.

ultimately this is a Cummins/Bosch problem they should slow production down and make pumps available, if they can’t figure out how to do that then fca needs to buy back or take better care of the customer. fca Needs to work with Cummins/Bosch to make pumps available to get you guys back on the road that should be first priority! Waiting for 2 months for parts is not caring in my opinion.

guys & gals & unidentified. I constantly check on the NHTSA pg for info on my truck. There is a spot on there where's you can issue a complaint or a safety problem. I'm Going too do this. I know 99.99% odds of anything being done are nill, but on the other hand, how do they truly know just how bad it is if we don't let them know so it can be followed up. If nothing else im (we) just a higher number on the list to possibly get something done. Like an old partner use to say, everyone has got a huge sack of parking lot @×//$, but what matters is to say it to people that can do something about it, even if they don't, you've done more than just gripe about it. Just my 2 sense, I'm filing a complaint and a safety issue sometime in the near future.

I guess nothing I’ve posted up here will “help” my case...Unfortunately that’s the way of the world. But, hopefully it’ll save someone else from having their wife and kids stranded on the side of a county road like mine were ( for almost 5 hours).

If you've had a CP4 failure, please fill out a form here:

All though it be private this is what I submitted.
I purchased a knew 20 ram 3500 and all though I haven't had the issue happen to me yet, I'm a nervous wreck that it will and my family and I will be stranded. There are hundreds if not thousands of people having experienced a catastrophic failure of the fairly new cp4 fuel pump. When this goes, it takes out the whole fuel system resulting in $17,000 worth of damage. What's worse is that your stranded ,with out a vehicle. Dealerships are only doing a limited amount of loaners but not a vehicle equal to what you had. Some have waited for months and fca doesn't appear to be doing anything to correct these issues. Some of us travel hundreds of miles at a time with an rv in tow that is a considerable amount of weight. Quite often when you travel, there is nothing around or place to coast to, or even in the most best areas. The cp3 was proven equipment that worked well and while I understand and encourage the advancement of technology, you have to be willing to acknowledge a problem when you have one, especially what could result in a safety issue. These cp4 fuel pumps need to be recalled untill further research is done to correct the ongoing highly expensive issue that is putting all 2019 & 2020 vehicles with this pump at a safety risk within a rapid rate of only under 10,000 miles and or less. Ignoring the problem and doing nothing is irresponsible and negligible. The anxiety that this is causing my family let alone all the others, is very mentally and physically taxing on one's life. Please investigate this and help all of us involved get a little piece of mind and a more reliable product than the cp4, that is almost guaranteed to fail within a short amount of time.

RamCares
this question is for RAMCares,
As a potential buyer I would like to know what is being done to fix cp4/Fuel system failures?
Also if there is a updated system would it be on the new 2021 Cummins model?
I think it’s great that RamCares communicate with owners and potential buyers through forms.
I’m always told that communication is healthy. Please keep us updated.

Just for thought, I wonder how many of the CP4 pump fallers had any type of engine mod done to it. I find it hard to believe that Ford and Ram still opted to install a CP4 knowing of the issue they have had . CP4 has been in use for nearly a decade and still being used today. what gives. Are these so called engineers needing to go back and educate them self's or what ?

Sad reports like this, are disheartening. I love the Cummins, but everything strapped to it seems to fail, just one of the reasons I ultimately went with the 6.4, and I have owned 6 Cummins heavy duties.
