Digital Rear View Mirror

I kinda figured that it's only a matter of time before someone makes a harness/bypass/BCM swap option. At this point though, I'm ready to just buy an aftermarket kit I can wrap over the rear view and call it a day.

@Jimmy07 told me a coconspirator has one running using a junkyard 2021 BCM hidden under his console.

I've been prodding a few folks to see if they could womp up an Arduino that could tie into the CAN bus and run one. Not sure how much a picked 21 BCM would cost...

Considering the prices of BCMs I've seen online are like $150, and the rear mirror itself is $900, I don't know that the BCM is the thing preventing me from doing that.

Rear view mirror $900?

Rear view mirror $900?
I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even think to check the direct channel, only looked at a supplier of the Gentex digital mirror (link for ref) hence my comment. $509 is better, looks like an OEM BCM is $236. I wonder if it's possible to firmware update the current BCM to enable the functionality.

I'd love to do OEM, but even still at $745 for the parts above, plus shipping and the rear cam I may just try the $200 aftermarket option first.

Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, but all of the questions so far are about the 2019/20 trucks.
I recently got a 2022 2500 Tradesman with the non-powered/basic rear view mirror, and only the tailgate camera. (Previous truck died so I bought off the lot, I got the needed features, but not all of the desired features.)
Am I understanding correctly that I could get the rear view mirror, some cabling, a new chmsl, more cable, and the trailer tow camera, and it should all be plug and play? I am looking to be able to use a camera for the mirror behind the trailer, and possibly behind a canopy once I pick one up.
I was looking at a brandmotion dual input mirror, which is about $8-900, so if I could put the oem system in for about that much, that seems preferable.
Also, if that assumption is correct, I could put the new chmsl in the bed canopy, and leave the stock chmsl without any cameras as is, right?

Thanks for any assistance/corrections.

Ok so I'm trying to figure out how to install the DRVM, CHSML and Tow Mode camera cable and connector on the rear bumper of my truck that does't have that option.

I found the terminated Tow Mode Fraka cable under the driver's side rear of the bed, as Jimmy07 posted here:

Since the cable is under my cab... anyone know where the other end to that cable is located?
Somewhere near the LH kick panel or roof pilar maybe?
Is it just a matter of running a cable from there to the DRVM?

Did some more digging and searching online and found more answers to my questions.
This guy on youtube posted some info that really helped clear up a few things for me:
His Tow factory installed mode camera cabling was not working and he goes thru the process of identifying and following all the fraka connection points from the DRVM, through the cab, and back to the port on the bumper.

What I've found is that even though my truck does not have the DRVM and Tow Mode connection from the factory, the chassis cable from the bumper all the way up to the LH rear outside the cab is there.

After looking thru the parts diagrams, I think that the 24" fraka jumper cable that connects to the chassis and goes thru the LH rear side of the cab is p/n 68527158AA. But that part is listed as discontinued.

I guess the only way is to make my own.

He's a member here and has that info linked in one of the camera threads (maybe this one?)

I stopped by my local dealership yesterday and spoke to a very helpful parts guy.
Asked him to look up some numbers for me, I gave him a VIN off a 3500 equipped exactly as mine + the DRVM and Tow camera that mine doesn't have.
Looks like I was wrong about that p/n 68527158AA fraka jumper wire.
It appears that p/n is what comes with a chassis cab and not the one I'm looking for.

Anyone have the correct p/n for the fraka jumper cable that exits the LH lower rear of the cab?

You ever have any luck with this? The DRVM option wasn't available for 2023 orders so I'm going to have to go through this process myself when my truck comes in.

Sorry but I have not, been super busy and this is in the backburner for a while.

I believe this is the part you’re looking for- 68519044AA
This should be the jumper that exits the cab (the one end he shows in the video under the truck first, and the other end is the orange end he found disconnected).
That’s the only separate cable part number for the tow mode camera. The rest, you’ll have to buy aftermarket fakra RG58 cables, because the other factory sections are part of the headliner harness, body harness, and chassis harness.

Thanks Jimmy. I have to say I’m glad they used easily identifiable Fakra connectors for these cameras instead of some random connector that would take hours of research to find and only be orderable in quantities of 100.

Sorry if this has been asked...but does this video rear view mirror come with the tech tow group b? Cause I don't see it with any options in build....I have a 2022 Laramie with the Tech Tow Group on a train...so just wondering if it has the vid rear view already installed....just odd I could not find it as clickable option on the Laramie or Limited builds..

If its not on your equipment listing then you don't have it, Ram did so many package changes in 22 its hard to say for sure

Pull up you build sheet and look for digital rear view mirror or drvm.

Does not show on the sticker.... sticker only shows the tow tech group.... Thx

it’s was a separate package on my 22 Laramie.

It’s either stand alone as AVF Tow Mode Digital RR View Mirror Package or part of Safety Group B.

It should show on the window sticker either way as it’s not standard.
