DEF consumption

Everything I have read says 2-3 DEF to fuel ratio. How many gallons of fuel to the gallons of DEF?

Even with previously menioned leak i estimate mine about a gallon every 600ish miles maybe little more.(not trailering) you have way excessive usage, dont know how it could even use that much without a leak somewhere.

On a recent trip to Dallas with my 2019 3500 HO I consumed just a little over half a tank of DEF one way (1300 miles) towing 12,000 lbs. Not towing I am maybe a gallon every 800 miles or so...I miss my deleted 2017 for this very reason haha.

thats brutal! I use 2.5 gallons every 1800 miles or so unloaded

Just drove to FL from MN had a full tank of DEF and 1789 miles later DEF is at a quarter tank right now

I just had my whole DEF tank replaced at the dealership due to it freezing in -30° weather in Minneapolis, they put an updated system in and I left the same day to head to Florida full tank...

So does this sound right? 2020 Ram 2500, completely stock. Just purchased and wanted to take a road trip. DEF was full when I left, drove ~450 miles and am down to 3/4 tank (unsure of total DEF capacity...gonna look up).

I've never found the DEF gauge to be very accurate. If it came off from full quickly, it wasn't "Full". If it's truly full, the needle sticks there for a while.

Tank should be 5 gallons. If not really full, it will come off the full mark quickly. When I fill at the pump, it will stay on full for a while, then drop quickly. on my 250, and now my 3500, at 1/2 tank indicated I usually cannot get a full 2.5 gallons in to the DEF tank.

I know this is a broad question with several different variables, but do you go through over 1/4 tank of def fluid for roughly 500 highway miles? I see guys quoting mileage in the "thousands". Just trying to estimate other drivers DEF consumption experiences

Nope. When I pull my 12k 33 ft 5th wheel 1000 miles I will only use 4 gallons of DEF. When I fill up and do not tow I wonder if the gauge is working because so much time passes between DEF fill ups. What MPG do you get in that 500 miles?

"DEF consumption will be approximately 2% of the diesel fuel consumed. (For every 50 gallons of diesel fuel burned, you will use 1 gallon of DEF)"

hard to estimate just like fuel millage... everyone will have their own millage based on their driving habits.... my brother has one of my old cummins trucks i could get 19mpg out of it he can only get 16mpg nothing has changed with the truck i can still get 19mpg out of it... same goes with DEF MPG

The truck computer had me at 19 and some change

Has anyone still having there DEF run out quickly after the emissions update? I put roughly 1600 miles a month on my 2019 ram 2500 6.7L and fill up the DEF once a month as well. I have not towed with the truck since last fall. Am I just stuck with this issue or is it possible that the update was not done.
I have a 2019 3500. I am using 1 gallon of DEF every 300-400 miles.

I have just over 1k miles and my DEF gauge is just a hair over 3/4 full. Sounds like my usage is normal, mostly highway driving and only pulled a side by side 150 miles.

Just put my 14th jug into the truck with just under 15000 on the odometer and only 17xx of that towing. Comes out to about 425 mpg/def and tracked 15.3 mpg/fuel.

Gauge was as about half, so did a jug last week. Empty round trip to southern UT and it was back to about 1/2, so time for another.

Still on first jug, just over 20000 km with 1/2 tank still on gauge

Last three posts are:
1. 20,000 km or13,000 miles on 1 jug = over 5,000 miles per gallon of DEF.
2. 425 miles per gallon of DEF.
3. 1,000 miles per gallon.

Weird.
