Dash camera

Do you have the aux switches?

I'm going to wire mine into an Aux switch because I have a hardwire kit for my battery free camera that takes one ignition source and one vehicle battery source for the parking guard feature. I want to be able to disable it for long term parking and less drain on an already battery draining system.
That's how I do it.

I used the Dongar adapter when I installed my Rove dash cam. Picked up a short right angle USB cable on Amazon to minimize the cable run and it works flawless, never worried about the constant power for the park mode as I rarely park anywhere to worry about it.

Good idea, I'll try it tomorrow.

I just stuck mine towards the top off the window close to the mirror on the passenger side. Out of my field of view (which seems to be a downside of this). Would be curious as to what your camera field of view is. Can you provide a screenshot?

My BlackVue dashcam is just to the left of the rear view mirror. It's view is pretty close to mine. Also put in a rear view - you just never know what some jerk behind you might be up to!

The black view from what I recall has a little wider field of view from the Viofo too.

This is my Viofo which as mentioned is at the top, to the right of the big mirror plastic.

Wow - ram sure wastes a lot of windshield space with that big black box on the upper windshield. Just trying to create blind spots.

Never bothered me, only a blind spot if you're looking up.

When I was looking at Fitcam, I did the online chat with them and they were very helpful. They wanted pictures of the mirror assembly and also of the plugs behind the plastic trim. Just FYI before you contact them if that's what you decide on.

I was using a Redtiger F7N that I had positioned just to the right of the sensor cover. It was out of my view when driving, and did a pretty decent job. Video was pretty clear. Here's a sample video.

I wanted a cleaner look, and have another driver in the family, so the Redtiger will go to my youngest shortly. I bought and installed a FitcamX a couple of weeks back. And since my drive to work has no shortage of idiots, here's a video from a couple days ago from the FitcamX.

The Redtiger may have a slightly wider field of view, but really not a ton of difference. Rear cameras appear to be virtually identical, but they are a bit different. Connectors are different and wiring is a little thicker. The Redtiger app did allow functionality to invert the rear camera which made routing a little easier. I didn't find that functionality on the FitcamX. Not a big deal, but just meant that I couldn't use the Redtiger mount as it was facing the other direction.

Since the video was taken, I did add the polarizing filter to the FitcamX. Looks to cut down the glare pretty well. I contacted FitcamX to confirm I had the right part number and they responded quickly.

Overall, both are good options. FitcamX is definitely cleaner, but the Redtiger can be tucked up out of the way, so not bad either. Wiring for the front camera is definitely much easier with the FitcamX as long as you have power to the mirror.

I installed one of the FitCamx Front 4k/Rear 1080p camera kit on my 2026 3500 Mega Cab, took about 3 hours to do the complete install taking pictures and such as I don't move so fast anymore dropping the headliner a bit and running the rear wire and removing a side interior body panel and such. I installed a 256gb micro SD card left over from my 2025 Z06 and seems to be working fine, only thing I wish it had was GPS other than that it's been awesome but getting the app up and running can be a bit cumbersome to communicate between your phone and FitCamx.

I paid $253.48 for my kit using a discount code in December 2025, took about 2 weeks to get shipped to me from China, my model for my 2026 3500 Limited Mega Cab was model C as they have 3 different models. I can do a write up of my install if anyone wants it when I have some time. You can't beat it for the price as it all looks factory when completed.

Wow. 3 hours. You definitely went through a lot more than I did installing mine. I didn't lower the headliner or remove any side panels. I just tucked the wire in along the seams between the upholstery and panels along the driver's side.

Good choice on replacing the micro SD card. The card that came with the cam sucks. I found this out after a couple weeks. It would only record a couple seconds for each clip. I looked that up and most recommended throwing the FitcamX card in the trash and getting a new one. I had others around, so swapped that in.

Regarding connection with the phone. I found it took a minute at first, but afterwards it seems to connect quickly. Prior to trying with my phone, I turn off BT to make sure it doesn't connect to CarPlay. Or, if I'm at home, I just grab my iPad and go that route. After the initial pairing, it seems to be pretty reliable on subsequent connections. I actually prefer it to to the way I would connect with the RedTiger dash cams. With those, I found it to be just easier to pop out the card and offload the files to my computer. I use a MacBook and usually use iMovie to cut/combine the files before posting to Youtube or saving. I initially tried that with the FitcamX card, but it uses a .TS file format, so it requires an extra step to convert it to something iMovie can use. Therefore, I find it easier on the FitcamX to just download via the app.

Ya I know 3 hours as I don't move so fast anymore, I have had Bilateral shoulder replacements from the VA before I was 50 and have a upcoming T7-L2 spinal fusion in my near future. I tucked the wire for the rear camera into the headliner past the headliner speakers avoiding the side curtain airbags and tucked it into the rear passenger trim panel area. It took 3 hours as I was not in a hurry and I was taking pics as well for a possible write up and the best is I'm retired as well.

I will start a new thread for the write up as to not clutter this up.
