CP4 Rattle Vibration Noise (Video Uploaded)

I believe it might be normal I took 3 videos, reg idle high idel (in the high idle vid. The noise is in and off b/c of the bad angle of speaker it is a constant noise), and in one of them I get a on off type clicking maybe a compressor of some sort??...but can't figure out how to post them
Share link on you tube very simple

Spoke with the dealer today and they have their warranty specialist out listening to my truck and have compared it to other 6.7's and have confirmed mine is alot louder then the others. They think its the cp4 pump in mine but it is not throwing any codes so they are not sure yet what to do. They are going to do a test drive as well and see if they can hear it.

I should have some more answers tomorrow and they have ruled out idler pulley on the extra bearing rattle I have on decel since they pulled the belt and confirmed it is still there.

Those idiots don't realize that a pump making noise isn't going to throw a code. No more than any other hard part in the engine banging away, they won't code either. Water pump going bad, no code. Fan clutch making noise, no code.. you get what I'm saying. I have no clue why they insist on it having a code if they can identify where the noise is coming from.

It's all about stall, deflect, and delay. And it's not just Chrysler, I've gone through it with GM, Ford, Toyota, Volvo, and VW.

Got a call from the service writer today, they started to order a new cp4 pump for my truck and then Ram stepped in and said lets pull the fuel quantity solenoid and check for contaminants. So the dealer pulled it and found no contaminants in the screen or fuel so Ram wants to replace the solenoid and see if that fixes it first. They also ask why are you going to replace the CP4 pump with no codes produced, the dealer responded that his pump sounds horrible that we can't duplicate on other trucks in inventory and has been to 2 other dealers getting the run around.

I find it interesting that Ram was still trying to go down the road of contaminants since it has been at 2 other dealers and they said no issues and sounds similar to other 6.7's. So Monday I will see if the fuel quantity solenoid fixes the issue or they end up replacing my complete cp4 pump. I also ask the service writer is a cp4 pump even available to order and he told me he didn't get that far with the parts dept before Ram stepped in and stopped it.

I guess that $6200 price tag plus labor slowed them down a bit (Whoa Nelly).

I find it hard to believe that a CP4.2 in a Ram is 5 times the cost of the Ford version available from a bunch of vendors.

I have NEVER heard of the FCA(fuel control actuator)being related to any kind if noise. I guess anything is possible, but they are desperately whizzing in the wind, IMHO.

I think FCA is desperate at this stage as they are in denial and are trying to deflect any other cause in the failure of my cp4 pump that has been making this noise since new and now 2700 miles on it other than they put a crap pump on the 2019-2020 trucks.

If they end up putting a new CP4 pump on mine, I wonder how many others with my type of noise will get a new one or will they have a TSB for it.

Geez what a sad response.keep us updated..not sure if discussed what's the production date on it?

Alright they got the new fuel quantity solenoid installed today and my rattle vibration noise actually got louder if you can believe it from what I was told by the service writer today. Ram wanted them to take a video and send it in to them, now we wait on what they want to do next.

BTW my production date was I believe August if I remember right.

Damn that sucks. My 3500 production date was 7/19. Still ticks but i notice it doesn't do it on remote start. I deleted my truck at 3k miles.

You deleted a '19? Who's programming did you use?

How can a pump cost so much? That is scary. I would expect the transmission to cost that much. Okay maybe not, but still...

That price is a " 'cause we can number ". I have been told by someone in the industry that the CP4 is about 15-20% less their cost than the old reliable CP3 that they should have stuck with. It was a bean counter decision, despite their BS about running higher rail pressures.

Well, I almost wish I didn't read this thread. I'm flabbergasted by the replacement cost of this fuel pump. I keep my trucks for a long time, well over warranty period. And CP4 is a known unreliable part? I don't like this at all...

I know I won't have a problem with the engine and transmission as I'm not abusing my trucks. At least, if anything it should be caught before warranty expires. But all other part are just possible random failure points to me. And WTH with this part price? It's a f****** fuel pump, not a space craft engine!

I'm reconsidering ordering a RAM now.

Guy in Canada. You can watch his videos on the tube, Optimal Wxxxxxg. If you can guess his name. If not, PM me and I'll send you his info. Nice clean tunes. He does the HO too.
Did you take your truck to him? Did you go the unplug route or removal? What was the cost? Thx.

Ford and GM both used the CP4. Ford might still be using it. The GM L5P went to Denso, which may be better, but likely still not as good as the CP3. And injector pumps, whether old mechanical rotary, or common rail have never been inexpensive components. It's not a Carter lift pump.
