CP4 Rattle Vibration Noise (Video Uploaded)

Lemon laws differ by state, but I suggest you go read through this thread when you have some time.

Be careful what you say, who you talk to and what you agree to. You may want to enlist the services of an attorney if you feel you can't manage the process well enough to protect yourself.

I've dealt with the lemon law 3 other times with various manufactures since 2015 and those were pretty easy to deal with. My case rep at FCA gave me the link to NCDS to file a claim for arbitration on this truck. This really sucks since I just bought this truck mid November and it only has 2800 miles on it. If they offer a replacement I'm going to go to a gas truck since every time I took it in to have it looked at they always blamed contaminated diesel fuel even before looking at my truck to try and void warranty repairs.

That sux man sorry to hear....i do think the fan cluch has something to do with some of the noise...good luck
I think the fan clutch has something to do with the noise as well but Ram Corporate told them no more repairs and that all the other noises I hear are normal. I don't know about you guys but a rattle bearing noise is not normal and then all of a sudden while running like a clutch disengages and is quiet to be normal. I might stop by today and listen to it if I have time and if it still makes noise its staying at the dealer until it's fixed and all the diesel fuel is cleaned up that sprayed every where.

I got my truck back today after the new hose blew last week on the new CP4 pump and it still has that bearing rattle on start up that lasts for awhile. The new CP4 pump is quiet after the rattle goes away, no more lifter tappet noise. But this is how they delivered my truck back to me, there is diesel moisture fuel every where under the CP4 pump on the steering box and front diff and droplets on the box as well. I ask them to clean it and they got agitated at me and told me they already washed it but reluctantly ended up running a hose from top down at the wash shop. I don't have any hopes they got anything clean since they only had it there for about 3 minutes. It's kinda hard to see all the moisture without being in person but under the steering box was covered in diesel fuel. Anywhere you see its brown droplets that's diesel fuel soaked up dirt.

Yup, that's taking pride in your work:mad:

So, Bighorn HDRam, just to cipher this out, was the CP4 part of the issue? It did make a difference?

Yes, the new CP4 pump did fix the loud noisy tappet noise my original CP4 pump had but took me 3 different dealers and 30 days out of service to get resolved but still has this rattly bearing noise on start up that last for awhile that I'm not sure of still that Ram states is NORMAL and they are not going to look at until something breaks. When the rattly bearing noise goes away like the clutch fan or A/C Clutch disengages the new cp4 pump you can barley hear ticking away and sounds like any other 6.7 I have heard running unlike the original one you could hear from over 15 feet away making noise.

What's concerning is the first loaner 2500 Tradesman 6.7 that gave me a CEL had the exact same loud rattle tappet noise as my truck had with the original CP4 pump that was built in April 2019 so there are more of these out there.

Talking with the service writer yesterday about the state of new Diesel trucks when you bring it in for and issue, he tells me the first thing to do is blame bad DEF or contaminated Diesel.

That ain't professionalism. That's just lame and does little more than dissuade customers from going anywhere near a dealer service dept. :(

They are blaming the diesel as quickly as they can. I own three rams, 5 duramaxs and 8 powerstrokes. The cp4 on the duramax is louder than my Cummins by far but I have noticed once the truck is warmed up is quiets down. My diesel tech and me have talked to many techs even a Cummins master tech and a master tech and ford and gm and they have all said they have seen the noisy from brand new and once the truck warms up it quiets down. The one thing they do recommend is a good additive to help with the **** diesel we have now and hope they actually put a better standard on it instead of everything passes.

I have a new case worker at Ram That wants me to bring it in to have them look at the rattle it still has. When I fire it up on cold start up it rattles for about 1-3 minutes then all of a sudden it sounds horrible and then it goes away and sounds normal like the lifters finally pump up. Every once in awhile right before it clears up it almost sounds if the cast block is getting hit with a ball peen hammer 3-4 times then clears up. After driving for awhile its back to rattling like the lifters loose pump. Listening today with a stethoscope the noise seems to be coming from the front cover area in front of the CP4 pump but who know's.

While I was looking at my truck I climbed under to inspect the new CP4 pump for leaks and see if that Diesel fuel they left me washed off yet and found the rear fuel filter leaking as well and it has never been changed with 3k miles. The fun keeps coming with this truck.

I picked up my new 3500 HO today and it seems as quiet as a mouse compared to my 04.5 5.9L. I specifically listened for any rattles or pings, etc. and heard nothing but the sweet sweet purr of that Cummins.

He remote started it as we walked up and they had been doing the prep so it was already warmed up.

I'll see how it is in the morning but it's been warm here, only 39F overnight. Friday will be cold and rainy/sleety.

Alright I finally got an updated video that shows the constant rattle after the new CP4 pump and also finally caught that ball peen rapid pounding sound on cold start that happens every once in a while then all of a sudden it will make a weird noise and sound like a normal sounding Diesel 6.7.

It's a rattle vibration noise in person and then at 2:09 you hear this rapid 4 tap tap tap tap that came from the middle of the block today that sounds as if the block is getting hit with a ball peen hammer, then at 2:25 it's like the hydraulic lifters finally pump up and then sounds fine. After it completely warms up they rattle all day long. I can repeat this rattle every morning on cold start up as I take a video of it everyday for my next dealer visit next Monday (Oh Joy Can't Wait). And all I have been able to get from the service tech from Ram is this is Normal crap and ended up having to go 1 more step up the ladder of a case worker to get it back in again.

I take my truck in today as I was instructed to by the FCA 2nd rep, I get to the dealer and see my service writer and he gets my key, plugs in the ob2 and comes back. I show him the video at 2:09 of the rapid tap tap tap tap that comes from the middle of the block and then the weird vibration noise then it sounds like a normal 6.7 and that my rear diesel fuel filter is leaking diesel fuel that has never been changed. He proceeds to tell me that the area service manager has said not to perform anymore repairs to my truck. I ask him even the rear diesel fuel filter that is leaking, and he says that’s correct. I ask why my FCA rep even made the appointment then, he responds idk. No call to cancel the appointment or nothing just let me drive 100 mile round trip to them just to get frustrated.

I hope other owners don’t ever need warranty work done and then the area service rep and dealers refuse to work on your trucks, so much for a 3/36 100k warranty that is worthless if you can’t get a dealer to even fix a leaking fuel filter. And then don’t get me started as I’m leaving he tells me of the WO3 update that parts are not going to be available till Nov 2020.

Hey RamCares, how am I to get things fixed on my truck that break if the area service manager has told the dealer not to fix even leaking fuel filters under warranty?

I'd have demanded to speak directly to the ASM and if necessary take it up with the GM at the dealer. Hate to have to make a scene in the showroom, but if it came to that...

Its sad to hear what these dealers are doing to the customers the spend many thousands of dollars on a truck.Just a quick question can we post the dealers that are doing this on this forum ? Maybe a little pressure from us the truck owners by listing the names of the dealers might change their attitude

You can always open a complaint with the BBB

After how I was treated today and wasted half my day and another 100 mile drive and was told by the dealer they are not going to preform any type of warranty work to my truck from the ASM, I went ahead and filed with a lemon law attorney on this toilet of a truck that is now leaking diesel fuel from the rear fuel filter that they refuse to fix under warranty. Maybe it will catch fire before we settle under the W03 safety recall before then, I do have until Dec 2021 till parts will be available.

It's been nice, but once this Ram is gone I will never be back and when I'm at any VA I will make sure I tell everyone I see never to buy one. They have put a sour taste in my mouth on the 2500 and the 2019 Ram 1500 I traded in for this one.

With the fuel leak, sounds like a safety issue they will not, or can not fix, and I would make a report to NHTSA.
