Brighter backup lights?

I have a set of Federal Signal Micro Pulse Ultra's mounted under the tailgate. They are wired into the reverse circuit and come on in reverse and also when I push the button to come on, but only while the truck is running, or 30 minutes after shut off, or if the battery drops past 12.2VDC.

My wiring is a little more complex than that, but it's the general idea in the end... View attachment 44856

Stupid question but how much brighter are these? I looked them up but couldn't find a lumens rating. I like the streamline look of these over the baja designs mounted light.

They are very bright, but they are more linear in light pattern. But they indeed do the job more than satisfactory.

You COULD mount 3, 4, or 5 of them, but there are some obstacles to work around for mounting. The picture I posted doesn't show that I have also mounted the dually gang light on my truck. I just love the look of them and wanted a bit more visibility in the center of the truck. The snow birds and texters out here cannot see my truck for some reason.

Whenever you get time - can I see how your dually lights are mounted/look like. increasing my reverse light brightness is definitely something I want to do, given how big the ass of my truck is.

I cannot locate a picture of how they were mounted, but I have designed a new bracket and was hoping to have it's prototype today, but it is looking like tomorrow at the moment... I will post up pictures of it once I have it as it seems that there is a decent amount of interest in a set at a decent cost.

They look like they light up fairly well. Need to see what the Federal Signal Micro Pulse Ultras look like lit up in similar conditions - I do like the "streamline" look of those just below the tailgate vs mounting the baja's down below the bumper area.
I set an alarm in my phone to remind myself to get some pictures tonight.

If you had one it would be a VSIM.

Here's a circuit you can use with Aux switches (if you dare). It's clickable and you can customize to your heart's content.

Man, in all the years I've been doing electronics work I've never seen that site. Thank you for posting this! Thanks for the diagram too. I'm planning to hook up some flood and tire lights on my trailer activated either by a switch on the tongue or with the trailer reverse lights. Your diagram gives me a good starting point.

Now, I know, it's pictures of lights, and honestly, it would probably be best if I did this in near pitch black setting... But, life happens, and this is what we have at the moment. I will be in a better setting for better pictures tomorrow night and will try to remember to take pictures then as well, but I feel that this gives a fairly decent idea of how well they work.

For me, If I need more light to the rear, I just turn my traffic director on to full white, and should that not be enough, I also turn on my remote spotlight. But is is RARE that these two alone don't get the job done. They are more than enough to help when loading the 22' car hauler as well.

I used Baja Designs rear bumper brackets and Nilight 6.5" LED Bars (and Auxiliary Switch #2).

Wired so when shifting to reverse, this will turn on the truck's backup lights and the rear LED light bars. Or, when Aux Switch #2 is activated, only the rear LED light bars are turned on

John, I have my auxiliary wiring kit (P68398184AC) for my 2020 Ram 2500 6.4. I want to set one auxiliary switch to turn on my flush mount reverse lights. They are also going to be triggered by the factory reverse switch. To connect them I need to use the blunt cut wires at rear of the truck.

I know there are two blunt cut wires by my spare tire (1-ignition power & 2nd with battery power).

However, I am having trouble figuring out where the a wire(s) that I have to plug into the two gray (dark & light) connect to one of the blunt cut wires under the hood that lead to the end(s) by the spare tire?

Do I have to cut/tie into the looped wires of gray in cab connector?

Here's what I did, hope it helps

Under the hood:
1a-Connected FCA aux switch connector wire to Dark Gray Connector Upfitter,
Auxiliary Switch port #2.
1b-Connected FCA aux switch connector wire to Light Gray Connector Upfitter port #4 (Spare or Passthrough port).
1c-Spliced the ends of 1a & 1b above, creating a jumper.

Under the dash:
2a-Cut pink/orange jumper connected to ports #1 and #6 of gray plug under the dash.
2b-Spliced the ends of #1 & #5 violet/yellow, creating a jumper.

I printed your pdf file when I started this.

However, I don’t want to use the pass through port. I saw a video on YouTube (may have been a 2021 Ram) that showed the blunt cut wires from rear of the truck terminating just above the auxiliary PDC box under the hood.

Must have been a 2021 or newer as that does not happen with the 20`19-20

The blunt cut wires in the rear are not the same blunt cut wires under the hood.

The rear blunt cut wires (IGN, BAT) are only energized when the Gray upfitter jumper is plugged in under the dash.

If you want to use one of those wires with an AUX switch, you have to re-pin and/or cut the jumper wire (gray plug under dash) and connect to one of the other pass through wires. That pass thru wire is then connected to one of the AUX switches.

This is turning into a bad game of telephone.

EVERY blunt cut wire under the hood terminates under the dash.

The 21+ trucks have 4 extra wires. 3 of them go to a white connector, 1 of them goes to the gray connector along with the prior year G425 pass through.

Please review the thread linked, that also includes a link to the details off the pass through circuits.

I understand now.

I was hoping to save the pass through for interior stuff to avoid drilling holes in the cab.

You need more than 5 interior passthrough?

The clutch block off plate is usually where everyone punch a hole and uses a rubber boot to keep it sealed.

If you need more AUX, add a bluetooth Trigger system. https://triggercontroller.com/

Okay, I don’t understand the statement of 5 pass through ports to the interior of the truck.

The way I read it is that there is only one pass through port on the 2019/20 trucks that leads to the violet/yellow stripe wire and my truck is a 2020.

I am planning to use two or three of the six auxiliary switches for the interior and the rest on the outside.

My apologies. There is only one passthrough wire on 19-20 trucks.

I focused on your comment "blunt cut wires under the hood" instead of seeing you were talking about a 2020.

There are no blunt cut wires under the hood on a 19-20, only the single G425 circuit that's present in the upfitter connector.
