Just turned over 400 miles on our new 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie, got the longer drop shank for the hitch and trailer set up. Heading to Colorado with the Airstream next week. Waxed up and ready to go!

Does anyone know if FCA puts full-synthetic oil in at the factory? I’d change the oil before we leave if not.7AD84760-11B4-4AA1-9658-B80F8761BE5E.jpegC456EAE7-7650-4770-B1C2-00CE3EBC7973.jpeg431F27F1-457F-4E30-B79C-365675E2E295.jpeg

Nice! I'm very partial to the red. All three of mine have been red.

Manual states you should use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 0W-40... it does not however, state that is what is in the vehicle from the factory, but it is likely.

What Globtrotter did you say you had?

Looking forward to your impressions on how it drives and what the mileage looks like!

It’s a 2019 27’ Globetrotter front bed twin. Towed it once with the 1500 and it didn’t feel much different than our previous Flying Cloud 23FB.

Had a short trip to the CAT scales last week with the 2500 and while it was a short 40 mile round trip, the trailer felt more planted and better control. That’s what an additional 1,000 lbs will do for you! Mileage was about the same - 10 MPG on the computer. Will update you after the trip!57D2CD57-3C1E-48B5-AEF8-E5B1A3667DF4.jpegE082B096-C636-46D6-B8FB-47B50BC570B3.jpegCA3A8425-6B05-4D9B-94F4-9F208F76B424.jpeg

Thanks for the picture, especially the hitch arrangement. I had to buy the exact same drop shank as the 2" drop shank i had on my 2009 2500 was still to high and i did not like all the jerking around that the hitch made having to use the shim to get it to fit the new 2.5 inch receiver. Works great as now i can get a things between my new 2500 and TT leveled out. Attached a couple of pictures to compare our 2009 2500 Cummins long bed (big Red) to my new 2500 short bed. Getting into big red is like getting into a compact car now. By putting them together you realize just how big the new ones are. And long, only about 5" difference between the long bed and the new short bed. So now i have a beautiful big new truck with very little payload. :( By the time i added all the cool stuff, its only about 100 lbs more than the old truck. Looks like its a half ton towable 5ver for me..

Wow, cool to see them side by side. Sounds like your ‘09 has served you well!

Don’t feel bad about the payload deal - I just traded up from a 2019 Ram 1500 because the dealer sold it as having 1840# payload when in fact the door sticker said 1220#! Dealer got FCA to kick in $$$ assistance and bought back the truck. New truck has 2940# payload - more than double!

I wanted the Cummins but after seeing stories like yours decided the Hemi was a better option. You’ll find posts by Gondul, another 1500 to 2500 convert with the same situation. If you go Cummins you really need to get the 3500 to retain a decent payload.

Hope you find the trailer that works for you!

P.S: here’s a photo of my new 2500 next to the old 1500. Dear wife misses the shorter step up but no longer worries about being over the rear axle max.

Quite a contrast. Sure things will turn out fine with the payload, i was not going to buy a monster any way and if i am a couple hundred pounds over payload dont think the world will come to an end..

Yup, you’re right! Just run it through the CAT scale to see where you stand on the axles actual vs. factory rating.

Here’s my scale numbers from the old 1500 and the new 2500 just last week.
