What's up everyone, new to the group. My first HD was a 2017 Laramie 6.7 which I traded in for a 2019 1500 Limited (I know big mistake) recently traded in the 1500 for a 2020 2500 6.7 Laramie with the rear air ride completely stock other than a S&B cold air intake. Now debating on trading it in for 3500 either SRW or DRW megacab would rather stick with a SRW. Reason for the upgrade is we are planning to upgrade our travel trailer to a 5th wheel (Montana High Country 377FLL) other than that I have nothing else heavy to tow other than a 8.5 x 24ft enclosed trailer which is no problem for a 2500. I am more than happy with my 2500 and really don't want to upgrade but rather be on the safe side. With that being said has anyone else been in a similar situation? I have seen people out there pulling these 5th wheels with a 2500/250 and I know the truck is more than capable my only concern is I am involved in a an accident and the liability that comes along with that from attorneys and DOT. We will mainly be travelling no more than 300-500 miles on our camping trips with the possibility of doing a few longer 3000-5000 mile trips once or twice for the lifetime of the truck. Travelling would be my wife (112lbs), myself (173lbs), son (60lbs), daughter (30lbs) and dog (75lbs) and of course probably about 1000lbs of camping gear that will be in the truck and 5th wheel. Is the difference between a 2500 and 3500 just the leaf springs or is brakes as well? Also if the megacab has more leg room or is it just space in behind the seat? If anyone could please share the differences between the 2 and if there has been anyone out there that has modified their suspension to accommodate a heavier 5th wheel or similar trailer. Thank you guys in advance.
