Loose 7 pin trailer connection

I guess I need to make time to go to the dealer. The in bed 7 pin trailer connection is loose fitting. The 5th wheel connector was nice and tight on my 2013 RAM 2500. But it was aftermarket, not a stock RAM one.

Are all RAM in bed trailer connections loose fitting?

My 2019 is still tight after about 15 plug unplug cycles.

How loose is loose to you mine has some wiggle but no loose connections

I have to plug and unplug trailer a couple of times to get a complete connection. Once connected it stays until unplugged.

On the trailer end take a small flat screwdriver and open the tabs back out so they make a better connection the male end usually needs this every couple of years i find

Well...the trailer plug has the female end. But I can do that on the truck side.

Mine is not terribly tight either. Kept getting constant warnings about being disconnected. It never came out, because the tab on the cover locks the plug in place. Dielectric grease did eliminate the warnings on my dash

The female contacts should retain the male contacts with x lbs of force via spring action. Dielectric grease is bridging the gap and masking the problem. I would test how it retains on the bumper plug and make sure the blades on the truck side aren't compressed.

Where my arrow is on the pic of the male plug you push the tabs more towards the center slightly so it has the force needed for a good safe connection

Trailer plug is the male end the terminals are female
LOL. Guess it's confused. Yes, overall the trailer plug is female because it 'inserts' into the bedside socket. But, inside the bedside socket are the metal blades that insert into the 'female' trailer plug.

It is still considered male if you walk in to any part store and ask for a male 7 pin you will get the trailer end

Male and female are the contacts. Plug and receptacle are the housing/insulator. You can mix and match. And if you want to get real technical, these are hemaphroditic because of the 7th position.
