Installed the S&B cold air intake, with some interesting results since the install

Another update on the S&B addition. I just pulled the camper down to the same campground we pulled to in April, and the truck got 1 mpg better economy this trip. The only difference is the CAI. Again, so far, I've not discovered any downside to the S&B!
Are you still liking it?

I wonder if most CAI reduce regen and help MPG a bit?

Update on the S&B. I've hade it for a number of weeks now, and my DPF is staying clean. The only regen I've seen, is the 24 hour programmed one so far, and normally, I wa getting one about every 10 days. I could not be happier!

I'm thinking about getting the S&B for my 2022 3500 Bighorn to see if it will help with the constant regen issue I have been having since starting around 9k miles currently around 17k now. It will never go the as programmed 24 hour drive cycle for me. I may get on average 120-180 miles 4-8 hours of drive hours before it goes into a regen again and it will rarely do a active regen on it's own. All I see is the gauge up and up and up to 48% then another regen. These MY22 without that extra sensor in the DPF I think is a problem and I think will cause premature DPF failures.

I have had 36 regens in 7,247 miles since I have been keeping track of them since July 12, 2022.

Yea that’s excessive. Have you brought it into the dealer for warranty work? That should of set a code...

You need to go to the dealership, it has nothing to do with the missing sensor (a sensor that wasn’t part of the 13-18 trucks).

Why would you ever think an intake would fix the issue?!?!? Oye, all that would do is affect your ability to file warranty claims. Zero benefits to an aftermarket intake, zero.

How many miles on the truck? How many hours? How many idle hours?

I have had it to the dealer and showed them my excel sheet for regens and they say all is good. Right before I moved from Wisconsin my truck went into regen at 6625 miles and 2 miles later CEL and Exhaust Filter Full See Dealer popped up on the EVIC at 6627 miles. I finished the regen but the CEL was still present so I stopped by my local dealer in Wisconsin and had them clear the code but forgot to get the code as I was in a hurry to get moved to Washington. Since that CEL my 2022 has been in Hyper regen rate, I have replaced the 68312096AB Differential Pressure Sensor to see if the sensor had gone bad but no luck.

Here is my regen frequency since July 2022. Fuel usage has been killing me with all these regens on this 2022, my 2019 never had this issue with the same driving habits but I could not handle the 2 CP4 pump replacement issues any longer so I ordered a 2022.

As the title says, installed their CAI, mainly, because I just wanted to try one. I have never run a CAI on any of my Cummins trucks, so I thought, why not! Here are my observations so far:

1. It is as quiet as the stock box. I do have the side plug in place (haven't run without the plug yet)
2. Is there a noticeable power increase? Not that I can feel.
3. There is however, a noticeable smoothness to the acceleration now. It does "seem" to pull a little harder up top.
4. There is an improved "smoothness" that was not present with the stock box.
5. Zero CEL's so far. Very quality box.
6. Biggest surprise of all, is DPF soot accumulation. I do tow with my truck, a 10,000 pound camper, on a monthly basis, but is still my daily driver vehicle. That being said, lots of stop and go, lots of short duration drives, everything we have been warned about. I watch my DPF gauge regularly, to monitor soot accumulation, and to see how often I regen. Other than the 24 hour programmed regen, I seem to hit regen about every 200 miles, and that regen usually takes a minimum of 20 minutes, and sometimes as long as 30 minutes. Once a regen is complete, I will quickly begin to read accumulation of 25 to 50% over the next 200 miles, with 30% frequently showing on my gauge. Since the CAI install, I haven't seen soot accumulation any higher than 1/8th on the gauge! Same streets, same fuel, same driving habits. Sunday, I decided to drive a bit to see how long it would take to clear that 1/8th, and it cleared in 5 miles. My truck has never done this. So all that to say, if a reduction in soot to the DPF continues, that alone is worth the price of the box to me!
The only reason I was considering the S&B was @Firebird has had good luck with his with the lack of soot accumulation in the DPF. I don't know what's going on with my 2022 and why all the regens but before the CEL I had it was all fine before 6625 miles and the dealer won't dig into my truck unless there is a CEL showing. Lately I have been contemplating PC, trying the S&B, Installing a new DPF, or going back to gas if Ram does make that new I-6 turbo gas motor for the HD trucks and getting away from all these government required emissions crap that causes nothing but problems and burns more fuel than is necessary.

Well, I pulled the plug out, and it sounds completely obnoxious with the exhaust brake on. Needless to say, the plug goes back in tomorrow, I cannot stand Needless noise.
New to the diesel thing and am looking at CAI's myself, how do you get more exhaust brake noise from the intake?

Less baffling in the intake and the EB slows airflow thru the block so it makes some noise.

Since you’re new to the diesel thing I’ll throw this out there for you. Save your money, use OEM filters and call it good. It’s a very well designed and excellent flowing intake with top notch filtration.

Until you have a turbo that can’t use the stock intake you won’t benefit from a CAI. They won’t make any more power, won’t get any better fuel economy, and are more prone to CEL’s.

If you think about it fuel economy comes at low airflow, not much to improve resistance wise at low airflow.

For high airflow the stock intake is capable of flowing more air than needed for the application, so you have to have a good bump in rwhp to justify the added flow.

Many CAI’s also pull warmer air than the stock setup, so are they really CAI’s?

I just bought a brand new 2023 Ram 2500 with the Cummins. It does not have that regen gauge on it? I traded my 2012 Ram 2500 diesel and something else I noticed was the new truck cranks longer than my 2012 before it runs. My 2012 had a glow plug light that you waited for it to go out before cranking. There is no glow plug light on the new truck?

Congrats on the new truck.

It should have both the DPF screen and a WTS light (These Cummins don’t use glow plugs).

The longer cranking is software related.

I read elsewhere supposedly a tsb will be coming down the pike for a reflash for extended crank time.

The regen/DPF gauge is digital and under the vehicle info menu.
