Many seasons have already started/finished for some - archery, muzzleloader, 1st rifle here in CO.

Who's doing what and where are you?

Resident/non-resident hunts?

I'll start.

After 8 mostly unproductive seasons Elk hunting in Colorado up near Waldon, I'm switching teams. Going with some old friends/clients to hunt private/public lands around Grand Lake CO. In 12 years they've only not harvested once.

2nd rifle Mule Deer (buck) tag (Oct 24-30)
3rd rifle Elk (Cow) tag (Nov 7-13)

Our last harvest: Put on 7 miles packing this one out (2x trips)
Friend Brad got an old cow. Best pic I had since we quartered in the field and packed it out.

Just wrapped up 1st rifle Elk in GMU 85 up by Elk Mountain. Saw plenty of deer and moose, but not even a glimpse of an elk. Just like the last few years, as we were packing up we concluded that next year we need to try somewhere new.

Was going muzzleloader hunting this weekend but I fell off a ladder filling my corn feeders in KY. I normally climb up on my tractor front end loader to fill the feeders but it is in the shop. No more friken cheap aluminum ladders to fill the feeders. Bruised ribs and shoulders, so probably will be gun hunting whitetails in Nov and late season bow hunting. You can only take 1 Buck in KY which I like because let’s them grow older, unlike most southern states that have unlimited or multiple buck limits. I have hunted many years in Alabama where virtually all bucks have a bounty on their heads along with all does. I see many more big deer in KY, than I ever saw in Alabama because you have to let many walk ( which is satisfying also ). Being on your own land as opposed to leases changes the mindset on what to shoot also. Kinda a long story...... but I’m fired up is killin season!

2nd rifle Deer is looking iffy for us with the fires around Grand Lake...

We hunt private/public and most of the access is currently closed.

I don't hunt, but may start. You cannot drive after dark here in upstate NY without seeing deer. They need thinning out!

Back when there was no limits on deer hunting, and market hunting was a practice, Pennsylvania total population was extremely low. They were estimated at about 5,000 left in the entire state in 1900.

Now there are about 1.5 million in PA. About 100,000 are hit on the road every year. No natural predators left to speak of, and humans don't make up the difference. Especially with all the anti-hunting sentiment these days. I don't count coyotes as serious deer predators, they don't tend to take down many, mostly just fawns if they run across them, and scavenging carcasses. I've seen coyotes wander right past deer and the deer ignore them.

I've never hunted anything that couldn't shoot back, but I do support deer hunting since the predators aren't there.

I really just don't have the patience to sit and wait in the woods. But we have way too many deer up here and something needs to be done. The anti-hunters can go pound salt!

Our Deer hunt was a bust, guy's mom died opening day.

Our Elk hunt is off due to wildfire burn and closures.

Another year of tag soup.

My first deer hunted with an X-bow After gave up smoking I decided to try something new and purchased a good starter crossbow for my first hunt. I have researched all the web, read all possible reviews and decided to start with Barnett Jackal. https://wildproofgear.com/best-hunting-crossbows-under-400/ Easy to assemble and use. Bolts, tools included. The only tough part was getting the crossed strings lined up properly with the plastic piece and Into the rail in the stock because the strings come pre-lubed and it gets slippery. You will need strong grip for this X-bow.

I'm glad but surprised you actually received something ordered from that site. From all reports around the web it is a scammer from Romania commonly posted about on numerous internet forums, by brand new members who only ever post a single time.

Oh and since I'm pretty sure deer season has been closed for about 5 weeks now, so as a PSA, you may not want to be posting too much about how you're deer hunting right now.

Only had a chance to go out 2 times this year for bird and rabbit no time for moose this year

Nice.

I haven't been bird hunting in over a year. Nov 2019 hunt. Getting ready to clean em up at my buddy's ranch.

I slay birds with a Benelli SBEII.
We have limits up here 5 per day
I have a Tomahawk 1200 it is a Turkish gun it is an imitation of the benelli montefeltro 3” semi works great and really durable

I have my first elk hunt coming up this year. I got a non-resident tag for Idaho, so I'll be headed there with a couple buddies in October. One has a friend who lives out there and has a cabin in the zone we'll be hunting. We'll spike out from there and he seems to think we'll have pretty good luck. I'm building a rifle up for it now, going to shoot 1,000yds on Saturday with it to see how she'll do. I got a Tikka T3x Lite in .300WM with a Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x50. The whole thing weighs 8.4lbs unloaded.

Forgot to post this up.

Dove hunting 2021. First time out with this crew. We did just OK taking 66 birds ready to clean here opening morning with 8 guys, losing too many in the brush.

I'd think long and hard and critically evaluate your skill as a shooter before trying to take big game at 1000 yards, even with a 300WM. This isn't target shooting and even a known (consistent) 10MPH crosswind will move your POI 6'.

2021 Big Game start for me here. 1st rifle Speed Goat (Antelope) opener 10-2-21.

Had this on the ground by 0715 this morning, drug it out 200yds, waited for the vehicle to return. In the cooler by 0830, gutless quarters and backstraps.

300yds prone up a little rise. Easy shot. Exit seen here.

Hunting buddy put one down around 0900. Back home before lunch.

Adult shot, kid just posed. This young man took 3 shots this morning with a 6.5 Creed and unfortunately didn't connect.
