How much off MSRP for a new 2019 “holdover”

So, I’m looking to upgrade my 2019 2500 Gasser to a 1 ton diesel. Considering the 3500 SRW and DRW and also the F series trucks.

I’ve found a truck almost identical to my current one, but with the all important H/O Cummins and 3500.

The catch though, is it’s a new 2019.. which is surprising since every dealer I’ve spoken to can’t keep a hold of their stock of HD trucks these days.

I also happen to by driving to where this dealer is anyway next weekend, so it remains an option..

Anyways, MSRP is $65765

Dealer is asking $57,977

Most dealers are offering me $37,000 for my gasser (which is what I paid 4 months ago, so find by me!)

What should I be shooting for price wise? Sticker attached.

Wow, I punched your VIN in and that would be a really nice tow vehicle for a fifth wheel camper.
4,118.27 LB payload and 24,528.27 LB max towing. Makes my 2500HD feel inferior :-(

I’ve seen 2019 2500’s for $10k off MSRP. Just reinforce that the truck is about to be two model years old in a month and go from there.

I bought my 2019 last year, I think November 2019, they were doing that employee pricing. It $59,XXX MSRP and I got it for$50,XXX + tax title. I either did really good at that time, or I'd tell him to look for more discount from MSRP on a brand new truck that if he buys and goes to trade in next month, it's depreciated 2 model years! What's trade value and used retail value of that 2019 build? I'd be wanting to be down around there, otherwise I'd be ordering a 2021 with exactly what I wanted and nothing that I don't want.

Yes sir, that’s what we’re looking at it for.

Toying with the idea of a dually too. We don’t “need” a dually, but y’know..

He's already discounted it to the employee price level which is the very best discount if you were ordering new.
As others have said, it's not a new model and 2021's are about to appear.
On the dealer's side, it's a preferred body and engine, so he may hold tight. I'm surprised he still has it.
Regardless I'd try for 52,500.00.

Indeed, for the life of me I can’t understand how it’s still on the lot to be honest. Maybe my individual preferences are off, but to me this seems like a really appealing spec truck.

Whchis why I bought a Tradesman 3500. I have 1400 lbs more payload. The upper trims loose quite a bit in payload, 800-1200 when compared to a Tradesman.

For what it is worth, I have a 2019 SRW 3500 HO. My payload is 3970lbs, and towing 24K. It is a Laramie, so I lose a bit.
It tows our 14K GVWR 5th wheel like a dream. Much better than the 2500 GMC I sold to buy this truck.
I bought in April. It was a demo with 6,000 miles. Sticker was $75K. I got it for $58K out the door. It was a buyers market at the end of April for sure.

I used to work in the boating industry and put on profitability workshops with dealers. Rule of thumb was 10% off per year for non-currents. Auto industry is very similarly structured, non-current is probably a little less but in the same ballpark.

Shopping last weekend, internet pricing 250 miles around me for 2020 diesels ranged from 3% to 15% off MSRP depending on how much stock was on their lot. 5% was common. You are at 13% off here so he's being a little stiff but not unreasonable. If you think he is being generous on your trade then that's as good as a discount. You could go somewhere else and possibly get $55k but only $35k for the trade-in, moving dollars between invoice lines until you are smiling is how the game is played.* What is important is the net transaction price. Is it worth $21k to you?

*Side note: Biting my tongue hard on the sticky topic asking how much you paid, specifically the part about who cares about trade-in....it matters a lot.
