i have a '19 2500 with about 30k on it and it's started to regen every other day it seems. I notice the truck idles a little louder and the exhaust tone is slightly diff during regens.
I noticed my dash is now reporting 10mpg as well. I assume the regens and loss of MPG's are related.

It wont regen while idling unless you are in gear with your foot on the brake

If I'm stopped at a light with the window down i hear the obvious difference. I assumed everyone's sounds this way but maybe i'm wrong?

There are so many variables it would be hard to tell unless your on the dpf screen and its saying its doing a regen

so its not hard to tell at all when my truck is in Regen, it's very obvious. The whole motor sounds and feels different. The motor sounds like it has a cam in it, has a diff pitch and vibration to it. Again this is around town, sitting at a traffic light.
So i have never been in a different Ram to see if mine is odd but it sounds like yours is totally undetectable. Weird. This truck is bone stock btw.

During regens at idle mine sounds like an old 12 valve, but whilst driving it is normal quiet.

yeah unless you are like me and have the new truck without the dpf sensor due to the chip shortage. I've only 1200 miles on it and havn't a clue when it is in regen mode. LOL

1200 miles it may not have regened yet do you still have a dpf screen in the evic?

yes still have the screen, but doesn't indicate any percentage.
It will tell you when its doing a regen on that screen, i have never had any percentage on my DPF screen and im at 37,000km

My truck was regening way more often than every 24 hours...So i used my trip meter and determined It's only been 8 hours and 117 miles and it's gone into regen again.
My mpg is down to 11.
Just so there is no confusion this is 100% city driving, (no highway,) and truck is completely unloaded.
it's a 2019 CTD 2500 short bed crew cab limited.
Do you guys think the lack of highway driving is causing the more frequent regens?

Yes, loaded driving helps raise the EGT's and burn the soot out. When I tow or take a long stretch on the freeway I regen every 24 hours but during my daily drive to work it is much more frequent. Here is a chart I started keeping. Average about 7.5 hrs. or 291 miles between non highway or towing regens.

thanks for the info, (that's very thorough!)
So the 11 mpg is really disappointing but i'm glad to hear the regen frequency is normal.

Something is wrong if it takes over 20 miles to regen…. I average 15-20km (9-12 miles) for regens to take place and they seem to be every 24hs on the dot

I've been doing a ton of city driving the past 2 weeks, and just did a scheduled 24 hour regen. That sucker took 25 miles to completely get finished

Dealership called to let me know that my new DPF and differential pressure switch have arrived. Will have it installed on Tuesday. Will let y’all know if that fixes the problem.

Had ongoing regen issues for several months. Took 5,000 mile road trip to Idaho recently and truck ran perfectly. Two days after getting home truck goes into limp mode, see dealer immediately,DPF full. Found a nearby dealer, and they ended up having to replace the entire DPF system, 45k miles on the truck. Repair dealer was wonderful to work with. Have really only done town driving since the repair but still seems to be going into regen too often. Any thoughts? EGR maybe?

It’s back from the dealership, $2953 for new DPF, differential pressure sensor and two hoses. It went to the shop with 235,789 miles and the regen in progress. Received it back with 235,790 miles still in regen. Overall it was much quieter. Only 12 miles to the house and it was still in regen when I arrived. Walking around the truck checking out the burning smell, as I passed the tailpipe the exhaust almost cinged the hair on my legs. It hasn’t been that hot for some time now. This morning I went for a 70 mile loop for comparison. Good so far, fuel mileage is up and power is back. No explanation as to why it failed so young. My last two trucks, 2012 and 2016, were traded in with 440,000 miles and never had emissions problems. Probably could have spent the same money to delete it with no guarantee that it would work hard every day without any problems. New DPF installed by dealership has 24 month/unlimited miles warranty. I haven’t owned this truck that long, so it stands to reason that by the time I trade it in it will still have warranty. Just don’t like dropping three large for repairs. 625 miles scheduled for tomorrow, keep you posted if all is good.

Just an update, truck performs like it did new. First regen at 1300 miles yet the gauge showed 0% full. It was in regeneration for 21 miles. 440 miles towing a 9,000 lbs. trailer. Totally enjoyable to work with again.
