I am planing on flying down in a few weeks to pick up my new truck. For those of you who have already made the trip, are there any places to checkout or avoid (i.e hotels, restaurants, sights)? I am planing on flying in to New Orleans and driving back to NC from there so if any of you have any insight on anything in between (or in general) that would be great. Thanks to another member in the build thread who mentioned they were having the dealer meet them somewhere other than lake Charles to save some time. I was able to save a few hours doing this and its no additional cost from the dealer since its within their 250 mile range for fee delivery. I know we are all kind of scattered, but figured this would be a good place for us to all talk in general not just for those headed back to NC like my self.

Oh, I'm interested in this info too.... Great idea!
My roadtrip will be back to eastern PA. I'm thinking I'll make it a 4 -5 day roadtrip and take my time. Maybe avoid some highways and try to see some out of the way places.

That's a good way to break in the drivetrain, varying speeds, no cruise, etc.

I planned on flying from Ohio right into Lake Charles. It may sound silly but I want to put the first miles on my truck, I don't want someone else driving it ~200 miles to New Orleans. I planned on stopping in Nashville for a night to break up the drive home.

Lake Charles' two best casinos are a few minutes away from the dealership.

I debated about flying directly to Lake Charles to avoid someone else driving thr truck. But saving 4+hrs of travel and them being on the hook of anything happens those first couple hundred of miles made me just decide to let them drive it. I have a company van so not in the biggest rush to have a truck payment again.

I'm planning to fly to Houston and drive back to southern California. Any dos/don'ts are appreciated.

Doing the same. You might as well hit up some central Texas BBQ on your way. The old Lockhart originals or Luling City Market are not too far off the beaten path. Of course if you check out Austin you have other options. Even Houston is good with Pinkertons, Truth and Gatlins to name a few. This goes great in your gut for 500 miles too lol.

Are they planning to trailer the truck to NO, or drive it?

I plan to do this as well. My ship date is 12/8 so I figure I'll be picking up early January. Plan to take the 10 all the way back. I've taken 40 a few too many times, and I don't want to get stuck in a random snow storm in Arizona/New Mexico.

For one of the best meals of your life, find a restaurant called Perry’s Steakhouse. They serve the most amazing Pork Chop, it’s out of this world. A little pricey but worth every penny. Or, Papasitos (TexMex), Pappadeauxs (seafood), Lupe Tortilla.

Some of those PA roads will definitely break your drivetrain :D:p;)
I cant remember exactly, but I think it was Rt 20 in Alabama. Worst highway I have EVER driven on. I live in New England, so thats saying a lot. There was about a 30 mile stretch that just kicked the crap out of me.

I was told they will drive it to either NO or Houston for delivery at the airport. No option for trailered delivery in that scenario.
I've thought about this option as it cuts off a few hours from the trip. But I kind of want to be the one putting the first real miles on it. Additionally, the plane tickets are significantly cheaper for me to fly directly to Lake Charles than to go to NO.

Houston has some great eats, as well as san antonio and austin. I 10 through the texas hill country will be your best route unless you are going north cal, in which case you will want to go up through Lubbock then to farewell them through new Mexico up to i 40
