I will start with the fact that I hate rumors. But I heard a rumor long ago about FCA requesting that Cummins build an engine that doesn’t last that long. IIRC, I think B20 was the term for 10% failure rate by 200,000 miles. I work in an industry of high mileage vehicles transporting campers. My 2019 was bought in January of 2020, now showing 314,000 miles. I know drivers who have had major failures under 300,000 miles. To date mine has cost me the most money in repairs getting to 300,000. For example, I have to add a quart of oil about every 5000 miles. So I started looking for a long block remanufactured. To my surprise you can’t find one and rebuilders are telling that the engine is not available yet or not worth rebuilding. My previous Rams, (2009, 2012 and 2016) all made it to 435+k relatively easy and had life left in them. Wish I had the 2016 back.

B20 means it can run on up to 20% bio diesel…. These are not out for remanufacture yet due to the CGI block… there was a few reports of oil consumption but most don't seem to have that issue and im going to assume your repair costs have been mostly due to the crappy emissions systems as the engines seem to be just as reliable as the previous 6.7s… its hard to find anything that will last nowadays which sucks but thats corporate greed for you!

Corporate greed is charging $500 for a belt tensioner, a part that has not changed since the first 6.7.

Or, you can just get the Cummins part for $165. Or, an aftermarket for ~$75.

I'm 60 years old, and my truck has 13,000 miles on it now. It should easily outlast me

I'll be 70 in a few months. I never thought at 60 there'd be no more dirt bike riding with the kids or any of that nonsense. Well, I screwed up, sold my diesel in February and ordered a new dually. Now I'm going to have to tow an 11k toy hauler 1,000 miles to Colorado with our 5.7 1500 because our new truck has been sitting in Mexico forever while all my friend's trucks ordered after mine have been delivered. :(

Now, life tip. Never ever think you're so old things will outlast you. The day you do is the day you might as well start packing it in. Just think, in 5 or 6 years you'll order a new RAM with some kind of new emissions system that works, no DEF and no EGR nonsense with an 8 speed trans and some dummy will give you twice what your old one is worth. Life will be good.

lets hope not these trucks will be awful with an 8 speed.
What's the problem with a proper 8 speed, the Cummins has a fairly narrow torque range? A solid 8 speed would be a plus keeping the engine more in the sweet spot.

I in no way am saying the Aisin is an issue. I like it.

These 6 speeds keep the proper torque range already an 8 speed would not be as good like they are with the V8 diesels…

Definitely agree. If the trans is tuned properly for the engine’s powerband, then the 8-spd would be nice.
