If anyone ends up finding out any more information on installing these in our 2020's, definitely post it and keep this form going.
For 1500
Third brake light: 68444540AB
Digital mirror: 68448641AB
Cable: you can get a cheap one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2VBYWZ/ref=twister_B08BCSQCK1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1, or you can get a higher quality one from places like Pasternack with the correct keyed connectors on each end instead of the universal keyed connectors.

Don't know of anyone to get it to work in a 19 or 20 just a 21

That third brake light part number is only for the DT 1500, and will not fit the HDs. The mirror will fit both, though.

Would love to install this in my 2019 3500. So I would need:
  • The new mirror (68448641AB)
  • Fakra Z Female to Female cable
  • A new camera? on the tailgate or near the cargo light?
My truck is a limited with all the features. Thanks!

The camera for the digital mirror is in the CHMSL along with the cargo camera. Not sure what the part number on that is, yet. I would say don’t buy this for a 2019 or 2020, yet, until we figure out why it works when just plugging it into a 2021 DT truck works, but not on a 2019-2020.

My biggest concern was fogging of the camera lens in bad weather at night. I have a lot of problems with the backup camera. Seeing that it can be used as a regular mirror too has removed the concern. I am hoping a solution comes along for the 2019s and 2020s.

Subscribed. Had a digital mirror in another vehicle. It is a little jarring at first but quickly appreciated you simply see more than you do with a 'normal' mirror. I have '19 3500 with the 360/trailer towing package.

Anyone know how to remove the cover for the rear view mirror? I want to access it to plug in my short wip for my radar detector but don't want to damage the cover. Any thoughts would be great... Thanks.

I just removed the third brake light from my 2021 Ram 3500 MegaCab Limited.

This is the part number to extend the cable by just plugging in both ends:

AND THE TERMINALS, BOTH PLUG & CABLE. THE CAMERA WILL BE EASY TO FLUSH
MOUNT ON THE BACK OF THE TOPPER WITH A SIMPLE ANGLE BRACKET, BUT I
THINK I WILL ACTUALLY BUY SOME SORT OF SURFER SKEG SHARK FIN AND

MAKE A COOL MOUNT TO RAISE IT UP FOR MORE VISIBILITY INTO THE BOAT WHILE
TOWING OR A BETTER GLOBAL VIEW WHILE DRIVING.

I wonder if there is any video quality loss converting Fakra Z to RCA and back. If not, I have an idea that would allow keeping the 3rd brake light camera, and adding another camera for the back of the truck. Then it would be easy to switch between them depending on what view you wanted. This would work great for me, as I am putting a Softopper on, and won't always have it up or down.

My truck already has a camera for the bed, rearview mirror and the tailgate. The Rearview camera is NOT used for the surround view.

If you’re thinking a standard rca video switcher, I would think it’d be fine. You’re just breaking the connection on one camera, and establishing a connection to another. I would probably use a coax switcher instead, with coax cable adapters from fakra to standard coax fittings.

That’s mighty steep for a 5’ length of coax cable. The RG316 is a bit overkill. Factory cabling is RG174. For reference- if you laid out all the lengths of coax cables from the surround view CVPM to the backup camera in the tailgate, it is about 34’.
Just another option- Here’s some lengths of male to female fakra z (universally keyed) coax cable up to 30’ that would work just fine. Most people that add the surround view system after the fact use these cables. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1638348708...45789a61f9d6cb424059|ampid:PL_CLK|clp:2334524

I would like to know more about this..... I have been wondering about adding a camera to the rear of my trailer, originally thought I would need to eliminate the one in the CHMSL but adding a second camera and being able to switch would be ideal...

@Jimmy07 made a great point about using coax vs RCA.

Basically you would run a take a fakra z cable from the rear view camera in the CHMSL and run it into a place in the cab of your choosing, call this cable A.

Run another cable from the rear of the truck (or the back of the trailer) to that same location on the cab, call this cable B.

Then run another cable from where the factory cable plugged into your CHMSL camera to your cab location and call that C.

With a basic video switcher, you then have multiple inputs (A, B) and a single output (C). You switch between A and B to determine what is displayed through C into your rear view mirror. It's only receiving one signal at a time and just switches between them as you select it.

The switcher could be something simple like this:

This would change your cable from fakra z to coax:
