I have a 2022 3500 with HO option and use about 1 gallon of DEF every 500 miles pulling my 10000 lbs 5 th wheel. My 2017 got about twice that with SO engine. Normal or excessive for HO? Thanks for input.

As I understand it they made these 19+ trucks run hotter > cleaner > more NOx > higher DEF consumption. But it also technically means less DPF issues and I'll take less DPF issues over higher DEF consumption any day, only if DEF didn't have its set of serious issues.

I'm ok with the size of the def tank, can get about 2000 miles towing before needing to refill, my buddy just got a minimax 1500 and that thing sucks def like crazy, had to put in 2 gallons after towing his boat 400 miles.

Just did a 1500 mile trip in western Colorado and northeast Utah pulling an 18k 5th wheel. Mixture of high passes and normal Colorado terrain. Averaged 2.5% DEF to fuel use. We are post HPFP recall.

Part of this issue of DEF usage on the 2022 trucks, is that we are missing a DEF sensor that will be installed at a later once they have the parts.

How can you verify which models are missing this sensor...

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

Why didn’t Ram disclose this on a new purchase. Just going to recall? Pulling my fifth wheel I’m just eating DEF. 5 gallon tank hurts on cross country trips. Not easy to find at pump so always carrying spare fluid.

Did you ask? Its nothing new and to my understanding you were required to sign a form saying you will bring it in when parts are available to replace the missing sensor
