This sounds like it is entirely possible. I don’t have an old boot laying around, but seems that there are probably a few out there that could be sent to her to develop a template from?

Its been confirmed that part #:
Code:
68480815AA: Mopar Gear Shift Lever Boot
is correct and is only $10. Perhaps I can simply order one at a dealership near her to pick up. Will try reaching out today if I get time.

  1. start a poll, see if there's interest (thread can be updated with a poll)
  2. contact vendor see if they'll offer a discount for xx number minimum
    1. Determine discount distribution method (code, email, order window, etc.) that can't be abused by non group buy folks.
    2. with a lower cost item like this, might be tough to get a discount worth the trouble
  3. start a google docs list and collect names
  4. Once met, obtain discount and distribute
Need a volunteer to run it.
I'll try and put some time into this this weekend. Looks like we have some great ideas going already.

If I had my old one still I'd send that. The dealer said they had to hold onto it though since it was replaced under warranty. I only went that route out of principle, and actually just asked if they would give me the part initially and let me do the replacement at which they laughed. It was worth a shot though.

5 months/4k miles and already developing a hole. WTF Ram? Definitely not worth the dealer hassle for warranty replacement but really want to do they MAYBE do something about it. Yeah right...

Just a follow up post for everyone interested. Following the beta version I sent it back along with some suggested changes to how it attaches at the column as well as a new OEM boot for comparison.

In the meantime the guy working on them has been out with covid for a bit as well which has slowed things down. Now that he's returned things are moving forward. I spoke to him today and he's expecting to have an updated version shipping out to me next week for testing. I'll follow up here again with more info as soon as I have some.
any updates on this? could use one..

11,000 miles and my boot is perfect

Consider yourself lucky. I was detailing my interior this weekend and my shifter boot had tiny little balls of leather/pleather on it where the boot is starting to fall apart. My truck has 2,000 miles on it, if someone makes an aftermarket one put me in line to buy it.

I'm in on a group buy if it works out as well. Never even looked at mine but i'm sure it will or has done it too. Much prefer a nice leather one anyway.

I have to get a picture but my shifter boot replaced under warranty is already looking worse than the original, and about to develop a large tear.

A while ago I pulled mine up the shifter column so it isn’t all bunched up. Put a wire tie on the inside to keep it from sliding back down.

@RamCares This may be the thread that gets brought to the table at Ram and we may just get Dorman thrown out forever? One can hope at the very least..
Thank you for the tag.

Greetings @Nd79 and others,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing this. If you end up addressing this with your local dealer, please let us know via PM. We'd be more than happy to provide you with an additional layer of assistance for that process.

Thank you @RamCares I have already had this addressed at my dealership, but unfortunately it looks like a product defect that will continue to be a problem. Others might choose to go to the dealership for this however.

I have also sent measurements today to stitchboots and she said she would be willing to do some sort of group discount. I'm still working with her on the details but I'll update here once I hear back from her. Thanks for the tip @Rockcrawlerdude!

Here is the current sad state of my, already replaced once by the dealer, shifter boot.
