I emailed AAM and Ram directly to try and find out a bit more info about what all has changed.

Based on this thread, the 2019+s underwent a fair bit of change inside the axle.
The deeper we look at the 2019s , the more it seems to be a much more thorough redesign than people have given it credit as. It’s certainly more than just a new front clip and interior.

Hopefully redesigned for the better and not just to please the bean counters. Time will tell.

Aye.
Clutch Plate LSD is probably substantially cheaper than Gear type.
However the larger, 32 spline pinion and different axles I’m hoping is and improvement.

I’m half tempted to buy a 2018 axle, 2019 regular axle, and 2019 power wagon axle to compare. Anyone want to help fund this endeavor?

What’re you gonna do with a bunch of axle shafts after you look em over? Lol. Hey you could cut one down and make yourself a spare tire mount

Return them ideally. Because what am I going to do with 3 different about shafts, only one useful for my truck lol

it’sa full float axle so making a spare tire mount from the axle flange won’t work

Interesting...
The 2018 axle is over 2x the price either of the 2019 axles3F6B0FE1-DFD9-4A1B-B9B0-7380B9791A31.jpeg

Morning, got the service manual in, looks to be a helical (anti-spin) diff, it also says if limited slip then friction modifier is a yes (doesn't specify what type of lmited slip)

Someone needs to pop a drain plug and take a peek inside. From the reading I had done prior to ordering my RAM there was a gear driving LSD up until 2018. The 2019 and newer are using a clutch pack again.
2020, rear - torsen ls differential, front - open

Open front diff is probably better.
I ran a lunch box locker in the front diff on my Blazer. Made it hard to turn in the sand dunes. :D
