I also believe the "max tow" is also based on 15% pin weight on 5th wheels, even though most people shoot for 20%-25%
If that's the case, no one should be using that number. Agree, go with min of 20% of GVWR.

The actual full max tow number is a 2wheel drive regular cab dually Tradesman 3500 HO Cummins/ Aid in trans with a gooseneck trailer.

Just in case there is someone who is hoping their Limited MegaCab 2500 Hemi will tow 35,000 lbs.

I see there is an uptick on the 5th Gen 1500 forum of guys surprised their truck only has 1100 lbs of payload and really shouldn't be pulling a 37 foot 10000lb towhauler.

Just for info.

I won't give those people too much greif. I made that same mistake myself and I'm still paying for it, 330$ a month for a truck that by the numbers would be able to pull what I wanted but in reality wouldn't do it safely. There just isn't enough real world information out there. Too much of the look what this CAN do and not enough of the what it SHOULD do. I made sure after I came to reality that I wouldn't make the same mistake again. So here I am, reading these forums and watching YouTube videos like a kid with Saturday morning cartoons....

They are both nearly identical trucks and options with the 2020 having the 50 gallon fuel tank which is about 135 lbs. of the 195 lbs reduction in payload for the 2020. I tow a 17k 5th wheel TH with 3050 lb. hitch rating so I was maxed out with the tow capacity of the 2017.

How close is the website payload of the trucks to the actual payload on the door sticker?

For my particular truck, it's actually way off.

First is with VIN the second is matching my configuration. Quite a difference in PL

Here’s my 2017 door sticker I’d say it’s the same as the website. I don’t have my 2020 yet but should be here in couple weeks. I will post the door sticker then.

Depends entirely on options added to that base trim level.

For an order, once you get the build sheet, the actual weight of that VIN is posted. In the past some owners stated they were way off the actual door sticker. Mine was accurate to the pound. Truck in my sig is fully optioned except sunroof, VSIM, backup alarm, and trailer TPMS.

Seems like the 3500s are for heavy work and my 2500 is for my golf clubs! I weigh over 250 so payload is not a lot. And I paid nowhere near that MSRP...20200419_161909.jpg20200419_161959.jpg

Gonna buy a 48ft fiver. That could tend to squat yah a bit. Plus I only weigh 130 so that's some extra cargo to pack in
