CP4 to CP-ISB21S3 (revised CP3) change for 2021 6.7L Diesel Trucks -- Merged Threads

Is this the TSB? Not sure exactly what fca is saying in this but if I had to guess their going until the end of May to see failure rates, cost to replace all the affected vehicles, and on and on until our fate is decided
Yes, that's the one I was thinking of... not sure if it has any connecting to the "service solution" though!
 
Next Wednesday will be 90 days since the "service solution" announcement.

I had faith they would do something too. At that point, it will be officially all gone. The 'Rona is a tired excuse for sloppy customer service. If you can't figure out what you're going to do in 90 days as any type of business owner, you're incompetent. Even if you're not going to release the fix for awhile (if there is one) because of Rona shortage, at least announce the damn thing. Again, if it's a simple warranty extension, 90 days is plenty to have a lawyer and bean counter draft up some official docs.

This is ridiculous.
Well, when I was having issues with the shifting with the 68RFE, it was explained to me by a "insider" that all parties involved with the RAM truck that had a vested interested in warranties etc had to sign off on any changes.That said, Cummins, AAM, AISIN etc all had to see and agree to whatever changes FCA was making to the engine/tranny to see and make sure their product was not hanging out in the balance. That, given lawyers etc is a process in and of itself....
 
I also saw this on a facebook group im in. Guy posted his 2021 limited and it sure looks like a CP3 in it. I have a 21 coming, and that is huge good news to me!
I have seen some stuff with early 2021 builds,, 9/2020 build dates with it looked like the CP4. the new pump is not a CP3 it a hybrid version of the CP3.. It is quite confusing for sure.. I was at a dealership sat in a 2021 limited 2500, but did not open the hood to take a look as this was all new to me coming from the Ford forums and owning a '03 f-250 7.3L

To repeat, I sent the photo of the pump to a well known pump shop, and they said based on the part number visible it is a CP3.

That is the million dollar question, keep your water separaters drained every month and use a quality fuel conditioner with lubricity.
My question to the ten percent number(which there is no official data) Are 10 percent doomed from the factory to fail or is it that pump just can’t tank any “bad” fuel. Up here in Canada man I really have not heard of any failures first hand talking to dealerships buddies coworkers
 
Haven’t seen/heard of one failure, either. (Watch, it’ll be my truck lol)
I would think if the failure rate was 10%, that would be almost an epidemic of failures.
 
No, Ram Cares says there is a fix in the works, that link is just a data collection period Ram/Cummins is doing collecting info from dealers about the failures....at least the way I read it.
 
Where was 10% seen? A Ford or Chevy newsletter? That would mean one out of every ten trucks. If it was that bad there would be a mandated recall.

Don’t remember where I read it.. also stated around 2~3% overseas as they have more sulfur content. Just what I read...take it for what it’s worth.
 
1) Want "fast feeback"? So many trucks blew up that Ram themselves ordered a redesign of the CP4 for just a few months of production, and then ditched it all together. There. That was fast. How much more do you need?

2) They already made a retro kit in house. That's what the CP-ISB21S3 is! Does it need a few more parts to work? Sure, but that's the kit. Nothing else on the 19+ CGI 6.7L ISB is different. It's not a new engine. Therefore, the cover and front gear and whatever else that was changed to make the new pump work on it, IS THE RETRO KIT. Word is that they pulled built CP4 engines waiting to go into the early 21s off the the line and retro'd them before sending them out and all engines following started to arrive with the new pump on them.

The least they could do at this point is release all the swap parts and give CP4 owners a heavy discount and I'll do it my damn self. Just make sure you flash the new tune parameters on for me. Is that too much to ask, Ram? :mad:
 
I agree. There is only three possible reasons corporate is spinning the roulette wheel of injection pumps: #1 they are in damage control mode. #2 they are worried about the big green thumb of the government pushing down on their carotid. #3 they are trying to save a buck. My guess is numero uno.
 
One other thing I think everyone should consider, in addition to the end date of the "Fast Feedback" TSB, is the current state of manufacturing constraints that are putting a hurt on the automakers.

If there a real "Service Solution," it could be farther out than originally planned. They surely have bigger fish to fry than this.

They also want to make sure they have found the final solution. They would be shooting themselves in the foot if the new fix isn't the solution.
 
I’m new on the scene and admittedly I haven’t done enough research, but are most “in the know” agreeing that a fix IS in the works?
I need another truck, but if this is going to be the way stellantis is going to roll, I may be rolling to another truck manufacturer....
