Moryde Goosetech

I would also recommend the Gen Y Goosepuck offset ball for those with the short HD bed. The Gen 2 has the integrated safety chain loops. Glad I had the extra clearance backing the trailer in yesterday. It’s a great design, low profile and easy to install and remove

I have a 3500 Dually long bed, so regular ball will be fine. Can I purchase it from Gen Y, or do I need to go somewhere else for it? Do they also provide /sell the safety chains? thanks

You can purchase direct from Gen Y, that’s what I did for shipping to Canada. But E Trailer has them as well as a good option for US delivery (free shipping I think). Gen Y does sell safety chains, I bought them with along everything else. Make sure you get the latest version with the snaplatch setup. I believe Gen Y said that everything after 2023 was the newest version but there might be older stock still at some retailers

Thank You for all the good info. Looking forward to it.

If you don't want an offset ball, I highly recommend the B$W ball kit and a rubber hitch ball cover to keep the grease contained.
The third generation Gen-Y ball is lighter and better than the gen2 but it's still quite large and if you don't lift it absolutely straight up (as an assembly) it's not going to come out of those holes without a fight.
The B&W kit, on the other hand, is compact, easy to carry, easy to store and I like the safety anchors better than the Gen-Y.

Better setup and it keeps the weight forward of the axle, where it should be on a GN. I wouldn’t want to get a 5th wheel/GN and then move the weight aft of the axle for normal driving as it reduces some of benefits of a 5th wheel/GN.

B&W ball looks great, that’s what I was originally going to go with. The slight 5 inch offset on the Gen Y essentially still has the weight directly over the axle and tire though, I’d be surprised if it makes any difference. Pretty much all of the weight falls on the original pin hole anyways and is just cantilevered out slightly on the thick base plate. If there is any minor noticeable difference in drivability I think the trade off of having the little bit of extra space might be worth it for many who are rocking the short bed. And it’s not just more turning radius, there’s a bit more room between the trailer and tailgate when backing up to your hitch.

The ball can’t move 5” aft and still be centered directly over the axle, just not possible.

Even 1” aft of axle centerline goes from adding weight to the front axle to removing it, not much but still reducing it. Every inch past that adds to the weight reduction and CG shift. The aforementioned cantilever removes weight from the front axle, that’s the drawback.

Pro’s and cons for sure.

I have both. It's having that extra distance between the tailgate and camper that causes me to keep the Gen-Y around and even though I know the zero offset of the B&W will work just fine with my Cougar, my fear keeps me using the Gen-Y most often.
I had read somewhere the offset is 8" so I went out and checked mine. You are correct, it's only 5".
