This is gonna be a long post.
So I bought several different air filters after having frequent regeneration issues over the last 2 weeks and popping a check engine light for frequent regenerations. I had been buying the Fleetguard air filter for several years, since the whole glue strip issue reared its head.

The filter on the left (Fleetguard) is the one I just installed and was having all the issues with, it was made in USA and no glue strips. The one in the middle is the Fleetguard air filter from my second order, made in Mexico, along with the updated dry mopar air filter on the right with the glue strips, made in Canada. All filters purchased from Geno’s. The following is the addendum letter that came with the new mopar filter from Geno’s:

The Fleetguard filter that I initially used (on the left and from USA) had no glue strips but had glue between the vertical pleats and was lightly oiled. The filter in the middle ( from Mexico) has zero glue anywhere and seemed to be heavily oiled (this one I decided not to use). The mopar(on the right and un oiled) has glue strips on the pleats and in between the vertical pleats.

Seeing the addendum that came with the mopar filter, i decided to swap that one in for the Fleetguard I had been using, being full aware of the issues that had been had with the filters with glue strips. I cleaned the MAF and the MAP sensors in the lid of the air intake and stuck in the new filter and went for a test run, I did my commute that I usually do for work but did the whole round trip, about 50 miles, mostly interstate. And wouldn’t you know it, passive regen worked just as normal and I did not get the soot loading like before. Got back home and stuck in the Fleetguard filter from before and did the same run and had soot loading, not as dramatic as before but it was definitely soot loading. I can only figure it was the oil in the filter getting on the sensors, why it just started to happen now with the same filter I had been using for years is beyond me. Maybe it’s an outlier, who knows. I’ll check back when I get more seat time with the mopar filter. I do have my new exhaust system on the way because I’m over all this air filter confusion and constant worry about the Dpf.
