Remote start added to 2020 Tradesman (SOLVED)

I have a few NOOB questions about adding the remote start feature to a basic 2020 Ram 2500 Tradesman. Just an FYI - At this point, I have not performed any mods with the OBD at all.

I called my local dealership and they are willing to activate a fob that I bring in (even if the fob I bring in has the remote start and tailgate option on it) for $65. They said they would activate the remote to lock/unlock and start the truck after they received a PIN code from Ram, but since I wasn't buying the fob from them, they would make no guarantees, but it should work if it is an OEM fob. So here come the questions -

Can I just get the dealership to activate the fob first, before performing any mods - such as wiring the sensor from the hood latch to the BCM and manipulating the BCM with the AlfaOBD method? Or do I need to have the wiring completed and modify the options with the AlfaOBD before the dealership activates the remote?

How would they be able to test it without the hard parts installed (unless you put in a restistor/jumper as @Jimmy07 has commented on before) ?

I guess what I'm asking is - can I just get the fob with all the buttons and have them activate the fob, even though the remote start and tailgate buttons won't work for now, and then activate the options using the AlfaOBD method at a later time? Or does some sort of programming need to be done to the fob itself while at the dealership?

Ok. I was able to place the connector in pin 11. It actually wasn't that bad once I removed the amplifier. I just hope the connection will be good. It looks like the pin I ordered was slightly different then the one placed in there. Now I have to schedule appointment and wait. I will ask them to add remote start and tailgate assistance code.

@kristof when you get a chance, please post a link to the pin you ordered/used, as I don’t have wires coming from my hood latch either. Also, hoping you get good results from your dealer.

I checked with a local place (Batteries Plus) that programs fobs, but they said they didn’t have the software available to program a 2020 Ram fob. I have trust issues with dealer service, so I’ll be watching for the results. Thanks in advance.

Check post above #26. I purchased the hood latch with connector from eBay

I'm at the dealer right now getting the codes and they are not happy I didn't use Mopar kit for remote starter. Let's see if they going to do it. Will update later.

It shouldn’t matter to them one way or the other. You’re just paying them to perform a service, whether it works or not. If they won’t add the sales code, at least tell them to just program the new fob. That way you can do the rest with AlfaOBD.

Btw they charge me $150 to do it

Geez been here little bit over an hour and still not done

They just told me it takes an hour for each code to put in. They can't do it two at once they have to program one code for an hour and then the second one. That doesn't sounds right to me.

Nope. Takes 15 minutes tops to add each on and restore vehicle configuration. Fob programming takes about 5 minutes. Unless they got the new guy in training learning how to navigate through wiTECH.

Sounds to me like they are punishing me for not buying the Mopar kit from them. That is why I hate going to a dealer

They just told me they can't do anything and I have to pay $85 for their time

Ask them what the issue is with just programming the fob.

They said they don't know exactly but it looks like it uses different frequency and I should buy the kit and it have two correct fobs in it.

Let’s separate adding the remote start sales code from programming the fob. You don’t need them for remote start, so they don’t need to worry about that. If you bought a brand new fob for a 2019-20 ram HD, and hand it to them, and tell them to program it, there should be no issue. You didn’t happen to end up with a 5th gen 1500 fob, did you? What is the part number of the fob, and where did you get it? Is it a mopar “refurbished” fob?

For what it’s worth, I’ve just got home from the dealer. 2020 tradesman just added remote start with remote tailgate.

Bought the key from UHS and already have the hood switch.

Dealer was able to program fob and add sales code. But told me they couldn’t get the remote start to actually function.

Came home played in the uconnect settings, found horn on remote start and turned that off. Remote start works fine. Don’t know why they couldn’t get it to work but hey, I’m happy as can be.

Now to order the tailgate shock so I don’t destroy the gate with the remote function.

Edit: AND had service give me the 4 digit pin and printed the build sheet while I was there.

Yessir. That’s the one. Mine came with the chrome accents on the fob as well. A lot nicer than the factory all black ones I got with the truck
