Automatic Regen too often

Differential pressure sensor would pick it up along with the particulate matter sensor. Also your scr would clog. Delete takes tuning and exhaust work.
I was guessing it wouldn’t be that simple.

I would still like to know about the software upgrade question I posed in post 1,656. Thanks.

When you refer to the “last software upgrade”, you are not referring to the over the air upgrades over Uconnect are you? I didn’t think those made any changes to engine management.

No, OTA radio updates do not update any ECU. Until the 2025 hit, OTA ECU update isn't a thing.

If he's referencing ECU updates, those would only be flashed by the dealer.

The dealer I had it at said they updated the engine management computer (or something to that effect). It wasn’t OTA.

It was an ECU update that the dealer did. Is the current ECU update supposed to still be using the 24 hour regen I have read about or has that changed?

Every current Cummins truck, regardless of year or code level, does either a soot based, or 24 hour active regen.

Well, I made it 17k mules without issue on the replaced DPF. I now have had 2 soot based regens in less then 10 hours of driving. Since the replacement last August I've pretty much had straight 24 hour regens getting 900-1100 miles on each. The last 2 were less then 200 miles each and 5 hours time. Nothing has changed except last week ram did a recall on the abs and an ECU update. Both regens have happened since I picked the truck up 6 days ago. Oil has 2700 miles, fuel filters have 800 miles, and air filter was changed at the time the DPf was replaced 17k miles ago. Neither regen had soot registered above the quarter mark when it started.

Here we go again

Diet time i think...

I think Ram messed something up with the ECU update they put in my truck. The last 7 regens have been 6 hour's apart, with the mileage averaging around 150 miles. The 2 that were longer were 1 - 300+ mile freeway drives and 1 - 500 mile drive pulling our 5th wheel and in both cases the truck regened the next time starting it. Need to buy an OBD reader so I can learn more I guess, Love driving the Ram and it tows my trailer awesome, but seeing the comments on the 25's if I were to get another would look elsewhere, and the RAM dealers around me truly are garbage and dishonest.

I think the update is screwy itself. See my post above.

May be like my last visit to one particular dealer. I had a recall done and truck went into regen pulling out of their driveway. Evidently they idled the truck during the entire time it was at the dealer. The truck was at operating temperature after being at the dealer for over an hour. I guess they idled it to keep the batteries up and the a/c going.

The only time I have had and ECU update they ran the engine at idle for close to an hour :( I was not a happy camper but was told that's how its done

I had 1 local dealer that used battery chargers when doing ECU programming. I guess I should start going back to them. They are a great dealer but it’s 59 miles to them. They have a pretty good diesel tech also since they do a lot of oil field trucks.

this morning i was at 25% when i left the house for work. When i got to work i was just a sliver showing on the guage. cruising temps on all my egt's sit around 500-550 at 80mph. however once i bump to the 25% mark then it stays at 700-750 until the gauge drops.

dunno if that helps anyone. but so far my 24 has been doing well.

I wonder if the slight restriction in the DPF helps keep some of that heat in which is why your egt’s go up when you see some soot accumulation. When you see the 700-750 jump when you hit 25%, is that at 80mph?

my commute daily is 13 miles of 55mph back roads, then another 40 miles of highway at 80mph. 1 mile of side street. once i hit that first full bar on the gauge it hovers at 700 degrees to 750 on egt 1 2 and 3. then it will drop back to a sliver (5-10%?) and my egt's will drop to 450-550 at the same speeds. they will bump back to 600 degree's for a short time as im getting onto the highway or pulling a long hill under power. otherwise it maintains those standard temps

Also ill add, ive never (Knock on wood) have had any dpf issues in my 2018, 2021 and now the 2024. Well, the 21 one had a failed regen when i was in Kentucky years ago. but i kept driving, it did another regen and cleared itself up.

i just like to post what im seeing so maybe people can bounce off what my trucks do.

I also drive alot, alot of miles. i think i got my truck in july and am at 20k miles already.

450-550° at 80mph seems oddly low, unless you’re getting 25 mpg+.

ill throw up a pic on my way home of the gauge.

and no not 25mpg LOL i wish i average 18 - 19.5.

Interesting, makes me think they changed the injection timing to help with passive regen when the DPF has some accumulation.

Do you notice the mpg’s drop when the EGT’s get above 700°?

18-19.5 mpg wasn’t great for passive regen on the ‘22, but it also wasn’t quite that cool on EGT’s.
