Automatic Regen too often

Good info, thank you for that info. I’m new to diesel so I’ll be ok the look out to finding better stations to fuel up. I have an appointment on Wed for them to look at it. Service manager for the dealer is buddy of my dealers manager. He called him and he said it will most likely need a new DPF and once they get it they will figure it out. While it’s still under warranty I’ll let them throw parts at it because once I grow toed of it and weight reduction cost drop on the 22s I’ll just go down that road. So far I have 2 CEL for to many regens. We have a trip starting tomorrow to GA towing our trailer so it should be able to naturally regen as I tow. Time will tell.
If you could find a bottle of the Archoil 6400d to put in a tank of fuel while towing, it might help clean it out some. Do you know when your truck was built? It’s on the sticker on the door. I don’t remember which months was included in the TSB about the bad DPF’s.
Check the hose on the turbo going to the aftercooler. There is a wire that goes from the battery to the alternator that can rub a hole in that hose. The hose is made of silicone and is pretty soft. I found where it was rubbing on mine and moved the wire.

September 2022 and later build dates. Mine was September of 2022.

I was planning on trying to find a bottle before we take off. Thank you for the recommendation. Truck was built 9/22.

How many miles and hours are on your truck ? I got my 22’ in May of 23. I had some short regens starting off but it has since settled down some since it hasn’t been back to the dealer. Since your truck is within the dates of the TSB it shouldn’t be any problem getting the DPF changed.

My truck wasn’t back at the dealer for regen problems but recalls and they were idling the truck from the time I got there until I left. Idiots

Need to look at hours but it has 32k on the clock. I’m gonna crawl under it tomorrow and check those hoses. Truck does appear sluggish but I’ve only drive a few power strokes and deleted duramaxes. I feel like power it missing

DPF replacement under warranty/tsb. Archoil 6400d for interim. Then with the CRA's as law now - have her on a diet post warranty. That is my plan. I'm just in the middle of it now with 5k left until my emissions warranty expires. I'll keep driving it, but as soon as it acts up Bertha will become a post diet Betty...

That wire is covered in a nylon sheath that is very abrasive to the silicone boot that it lays on. I could feel the chafing that was happening on mine and got the wire off of it. That wire needs to be rerouted but I was able to zip tie it up off of it. Any boost or exhaust leak causes problems. You can see and check the hose through the hole in the fender well where the oil filter is located.

CRA’s ?

CRA’s ?
Congressional review act of 1996 - the recent ones rolling back EPA stuff. Most of what you'll see relates to CARB, but there is other goodies in it for diesel guys like us (or so I've been told).

It allows congress to review department rules such as the EPAs, and nix them

Just one of the CRAs

- H.J.Res. 89 disapproves the EPA's waiver for the "Omnibus" Low NOx regulation, which establishes more stringent emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

Quick update. The dealer replaced the DPF in a very timely manner and when they dropped the truck off at my house, the DPF gauge showed 1/4 full after a whopping 15-minute drive. Got a whopping 60 miles before it regens. Over the last few days, its been regenerating every day just like last time. It's going back to the dealer Monday to see what the hell is wrong with it.

Not a car guy and certainly not a tech/mechanic, but if the physical hardware was replaced with all fresh brand new never been used before and its calling for regeneration "everyday" and "60" miles. Wouldn't that leave either sensor or module communication as the breakdown point.
Does replacing the DPF include all the sensors along the way?

I would tend to agree. Something either with the ECU or a sensor is ****ed up. I’m gonna crawl under the truck and look for anything apparent. From the service doc I was provided, this is what the tech wrote: “

HAD CODES CLEARED VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE CODE WASP2459

(Driveability Concern 1)

CAME IN WITH VEHICLE GOING INTO LIMP MODE SO PUT ON WITECH AND FOUND CODE P2459 SO DIAGED IT AND FOUND IT WAS REGENING TO MUCH SO THEN PULLED UP SOOT LEVELS AND FOUND IT WAS AT 8 GRAMS WHICH IS WHY ITS REGENING ALL THE TIME SO THEN PULLED PM SENSOR OUT AND IT WAS BADLY SOOTED UP AND THEN DROPPED DPF DOWN AND FOUND IT PLUGGED WITH SOOT AND THEN FOUND BOTH EXHAUST TEMP SENSORS NOT READING CORRECT DUE TO BEING SOOTED UP TO BAD AND ALSO FOUND DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR HAD ALOT OF SOOT IN IT SO EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED REPLACED DPF AND FRONT DPF GASKET AND THEN REPLACED BOTH EXHAUST TEMP SENSORS AND ALSO REPLACED DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR AND ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE PM SENSOR THEN PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER THEN RESET EVERYTHING AND THEN PERFORMED A REGEN AND A PM REGEN THEN TEST DROVE IT AND LET IT DO A DRIVING REGEN AND NOW SOOT LEVELS ARE AT O GRAMS AND ITS RUNNING AS DESIGNED TO NOW. 25070204.8, 11610139 1.7,”

How is it the tech did 3 regens on basically a brand new system? What could there have been to burn off.
With all that was replaced this has to be in the modules?? thats the only thing he doesn't mention updating reflashing resetting deleting or the like.

Since getting it back from Ram, it’s had 3 regens in under a 200 miles. When they dropped it off at my house (was at work and they offered) the trucks gauge was at 1/4 DPF. My house is about 15 from the dealer so between the techs test drive and the ride to my house it’s 1/4 of the filters fullness. Hope that make more sense.

ETA: uploaded photo. My numbers are off slightly from previous but not by much

Has the MAF been checked to see if it is German (bad ones) or Chinese (good ones)? If so, was the ECU relearn procedure completed? I'd think that was an easy first one to knock out, but don't see it in the above shop notes.

I understood what you were saying and no none of it makes any sense that with all that new hardware.
Question: is this a fuel issue? In that its "rolling coal" all the time producing that much soot in such a short period.

No matter what fuel I use the issue stays the same. No black smoke from the tail

Wasn't thinking so much in brand as in quantity being dumped in from the injectors and a turbo issue. You raised another question with the whole dpf system would there be black smoke at the tailpipe?
