Automatic Regen too often

Hopefully this will be the next Cummins for the RAM. It will use an electric heater for regen vice using fuel and all its bad side-effects....

Seriously if I was looking for a new truck, I would never dive off into an experiment between Cummins and Ram. They can’t even figure out the problems with the current system. I love my truck but it is ludicrous that Ram/Stellantis and Cummins have not addressed the issues and claim they don’t know what the problem is or if it even exists.

No displacement change for 2025.
Cummins does have a 7.2L in development but as of right now it’s being developed for the commercial / industrial side. I’m sure it’s very possible it could find its way into a pickup at some point.

I’ve gotten to the point with this truck that I’m so frustrated I am thinking of moving to a 2020-2021 Powerstroke. Any good reasons not to? Between the constant regenning and potential for lifter issues, it doesn’t feel like a smart investment anymore.

CP-4.

Correct - the 2025 will be the same 6.7 just with more HP and Torque numbers and the 8-speed trans - I hope we get this in a few years or at least the electrical regen option

I sent Ram Cares a message right after posting that. We will see what happens but I am not hopeful. The last time it was in a STAR case was opened and the dealership claimed that they never would let them replace anything other than the MAF and just told them to keep driving it and eventually said there is nothing wrong. It is in regeneration more than not at this point. Regeneration lasts over 45 minutes then it shows building soot for 20 minutes until it starts another round. And this truck is pulling a loaded gooseneck 95% of the time. Like others here, it is beyond frustrating. Our group only has 3 trucks, this 22, an 18 Ram 3500, and an 18 F350. The F350 just got $3000 worth of emissions work done on it and the check engine light is on again for the same code. The 18 Ram has never had 1 single issue. I would trade the 22 and the Ford for a couple of 2018 Rams in a heartbeat at this point but we would take a bath on them.
I sent Ramcares a direct message regarding my regen issues. I included the report from my dealer service and my regen log. It took 4 days to get a response and the guy who responded clearly didn’t even read my message or look at the attachments. I’m not expecting much help from them.

My biggest worry is I only have 17k miles until my emissions warranty is up. With the driving I do I’ll hit that in about 6 months.

Get it documented that this issue has never been resolved and it happened before warranty expired should be good.

Looks like they (Cummins) has been paying attention to at least some of the major concerns anyway….
Are they going back to solid lifters ? Are they coming out with a different regen strategy or more robust exhaust system ? Are they making them easier to delete ?

Unfortunately it’s still an HLA engine. But there are some pretty unique changes to other areas where there have been “issues”….

Don’t want to derail this thread. But rest assured there are indeed some pretty unique changes to the engine for 25.

I agree on not derailing the thread. I’m unfortunately stuck with the platform I currently have. I’ll just have to Fix mine when problems arise.

Strange behavior from my truck this morning. The past couple months I’m averaging a regen at 100mi in my short daily commute. Today when I left home the DPF% on the iDash was 95. Was expecting to go into regen on way to work, like clockwork. I had to make a couple stops in my commute so maybe they threw things off. By the time I got to office the truck had passively regened down to 55. EGTs were never high enough for typical passive regen to occur. Have no clue what happened.

Went to lunch and the truck acted normally climbing to 75 on way to lunch and then to 89 after returning from lunch.

Not running any Archoil and using same fuel I’ve used before. Ambient temp was 75-77.

Maybe it was happy to get washed and waxed over the weekend. :)

Go figure…

That makes about as much sense as anything else I have seen. Lol
